    The Mill: Coffee Break

by JennJenn Written Jul 9, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    The Mill

Smack in the middle of the historic Haymarket district downtown, The Mill takes the old brick warehouse look and goes with it. Mismatched furniture, random bits that look like they could come from a junkyard and just a general "worn" look.

A popular hangout for university students at night (UNL is a few blocks away), business people and mothers with strollers during the day, and lots of the older crowd in the early weekend mornings. There are people from everywhere here.

Favorite Dish: Any of the drinks!

Cracker Barrel: Great Food and Atmosphere

by Basaic Written Oct 11, 2013

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Cracker Barrel

$14 as of August 2013. If you like family style home cooking, then Cracker Barrel is a consistantly good place to stop. The one in Lincoln was not an exception. The atmosphere was friendly and like a country home. The staff was very good. Hours are 6 AM to 10 PM Sunday through Thursday and 6 AM to 11 PM Friday and Saturday.

Favorite Dish: I had the sampler with ham, chicken and dumplings, and meatloaf, great!

The Oven: Best Indian food in Lincoln and beyond

    by allenk_007 Written Jan 7, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Very, very good! I've tried the vindaloo, madras and korma dishes all of which were excellent and portioned generously.
Of the Indian restaurants I've tried in Lincoln, this is top of the heap. Indeed, may well be the best Indian restaurant I've ever eaten at, and I've eaten here several times.

Favorite Dish: chicken or shrimp vindaloo

Excellent service, nice ambience, very nice food presentation.

Limited on-site parking but a parking garage across the street.

It is a jewel in Lincoln and well worth the visit. The first visit will bring you back.

  • New China Buffet: Buffet with large variety and Mongolian Grill

    by CA_Dude Updated Apr 4, 2003

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Buffet has a wide variety of choices, the quality is consistently high, and the prices are moderate...
Less expensive for lunch, but with slightly fewer seafood choices than at dinner time.

    Friendly employees and management.

Favorite Dish: The Mongolian Grill, included with the buffet price, is probably the only one in Lincoln.
You can pick your own uncooked ingredients--Then a chef will cook them for you on a large,
    round grill.

Valentino's: Valentino's Pizza is THE Lincoln tradition

by pamjames Updated Oct 27, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Buffet has SALAD & dessert heaven, pasta & MORE!

The original Valentino's is at 35th & Holdrege Streets in the north central part of Lincoln. They serve a variety of great Italian food. They have a yummy buffet at the original and at some of the locations in town. Call ahead or check it out online. Several places around are "to go" only. You'll miss out on their great salad bar and the Lincoln experience of Val's.

Favorite Dish: I love the Sicilian Sauce on Pasta, but nothing beats the desserts on the buffet. Their bleu cheese dressing is THE BEST ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD! Val's is famous for their pizza here. The buffet has it all.

Oso Burrito: Best Burritos in Nebraska

    by allenk_007 Written Sep 25, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Oso Burrito serves up, among other things, the best burritos in town. Call them "gourmet burritos" if you will, they have many different and interesting burrito concoctions that must be tasted to be believed. My favorites include the pork (shredded or carnitas) with Thai peanut and the fish burrito with wasabi and garlic, all of which I enjoy with extra cilantro, and of course extra hot sauce. There are many other offerings beside the traditional including buffalo (as in wing) flavor sauce, pesto and jerk flavors.

Although I clicked on Mexican above, they pride theirselves in not being Mexican, but being a specialty burrito restaurant, and in that they are quite right.

There are plenty of other things including vegetarian fare, including burrito bowls, salads, tacos (try the fish!) and rice plates.

I give Oso Burrito two thumbs way up!

Favorite Dish: Thai peanut, pork burrito
    Fish with wasabi/garlic burrito
    Fish with curry/ginger burrito
    Buffalo chicken burrito

  • Parthenon: Great Greek Food!

    by megsoc13 Updated Mar 4, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Have been here twice and loved it. I don't remember what I ate but everything was delicious. They have good appetizers and dessert too. Owned by a Greek family so it's authentic. (They also own Papa John's Family Restaurant downtown.) Very nice atmosphere.

Actually most menu items are under $10, especially for lunch, but if you order a wonderful appetizer and dessert it's going to push your bill up.

  • My favorite restaurant is...

    by a_woud Written Sep 8, 2002

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

My favorite restaurant is called Shogun. It's a Japanese restaurant, complete with sushi, and a tepenyaki grill. (That means it's cooked right in front of you, and with plenty of flare.)

Another great restaurant is called Crane River. They make lots of excellent vegetarian items, so if you're looking for something hearty but not too heavy, this is your place.
Shogun has a wonderful atmosphere. The cooks are the best part, because while half of their goal is to cook your food, the other is to entertain you.

Crane River is known for it's beers, and it's all brewed in the building.

Favorite Dish: Shogun: The sushi is good, but Nebraska produces such good beef you can't pass up having steak.

Crane River: They make killer root beer, and have lots of good desserts.

Yia Yia's Pizza: Great pizza, huge beer selection!

    by allenk_007 Written Jan 7, 2008

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

A very interesting flat bread type of pizza where you choose from several types of sauces from traditional to various pesto sauces, and the ingredients to top it with.

Up to 250 kinds of beers from all over the world.

Gets busy at lunch time. They sell by the slice or the whole pizza.

For those so inclined, they also have vegan fare.

Favorite Dish: Bleu cheese and walnut pizza
    BBQ chicken, jalapenos pizza

    DaVINCI'S: FAST ITALIAN FOOD

    by Rich62 Written Mar 19, 2006

    DaVinci's
    2 more images

THIS IS A NICE PLACE TO EAT and the manager and wait staff were all very friendly and helpful.

The building is cleverly designed to give you the feel of being in an outdoor Italian courtyard. However, since this is the midwest, you are indoors. Probably a good thing.

Favorite Dish: We had baked pasta dishes. I think they take a little longer to serve if you get the "baked" option, but it was worth the short wait, it was delicious.

  • Tico's: Best Mexican I Know of in Lincoln

    by megsoc13 Written Mar 4, 2007

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Good Mexican food. Have never been disappointed. Their chips and salsa are excellent as they make their own chips with an original seasoning.

Within walking distance of city campus but has parking.

Price with tip probably over $10.

    a light snack--midwestern style

In truth, it depends on where I am in my cycle. If I have PMS, Lee's Chicken is great, artery-clogging fun. It's not too far from Pioneer's Park (ask anybody for directions). Valentino's is the famous pizza joint, but the best and only location to visit is on Holdredge by East Campus. Afterwards, load up on ice cream the way it used to taste before those evil corporate entities made it all bland. Just saunter over to the Ag College (across the street from Val's) and enjoy a cone, or buy a half-gallon to scarf down like a pig on your way home.

Overeating...it's a midwestern thang. Dig in and enjoy!
