Lincoln Things to Do

  • Nebraska High School Hall of Fame

As of 2014, the HOF is open to the public but not yet complete. Even at this stage it is interesting and worth a stop if you enjoy high school sports. As of March 2014, there was no admission charge, since it is not done! So you can get a sneak preview and look up your favorite school or a favorite student-athlete.

Lincoln Restaurants

  • Great Food and Atmosphere

$14 as of August 2013. If you like family style home cooking, then Cracker Barrel is a consistantly good place to stop. The one in Lincoln was not an exception. The atmosphere was friendly and like a country home. The staff was very good. Hours are 6 AM to 10 PM Sunday through Thursday and 6 AM to 11 PM Friday and Saturday. I had the sampler with...

Gotta love the Blues! Lincoln has a treasure, albeit a grubby one, in the Zoo Bar at 14th street between O and P Streets. Blues artists from all over the world get booked here, and we even made "The Blues for Dummies" Book! Sometimes classic Blues stars pop in for a good time without booking and collaborate with whoever is playing. A calendar can...

Celebrate the middle of the week at WC's on Wednesdays, especially if you're looking for great drink specials! • If you like the blues

While Lincoln is a small city in a sparsely populated state - it is the home of one of the best blues bars in the country. It's small, it's dark, it's dirty - as one performer noted, "It's greazzy." But the music invades you as if you were taking it intraveneously. Where is do you have to duck under the neck of the bass guitar to go to the...

Lincoln What to Pack

Luggage and bags: They're delightfully unpretentious (except for the sorority girls at the U; and they don't count). If you're really strapped, a Hefty bag works just fine.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: They don't do trendy here, so feel free to represent as a throw-back to Eisenhower's America. It's all good.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: That completely depends on what your poison is. Remember, it's a college town, so you can get booze almost anywhere--just don't drink it as you teeter down the street. They really hate that kind of thing.

Photo Equipment: A disposible works just fine. In fact, if you draw, a sketch pad might be fun--the sunsets especially during harvest time. The grain dust makes the sky glow pink and orange just at twilight.

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Forget the beach thing completely. Camping gear is fine, but the bugs are fairly annoying in the summer.

Miscellaneous: Just don't forget what I said about polyester.
