It is a long-standing local tradition that community activities are, when appropriate, held on the town square around the courthouse. Today when we were in town they were having a family-friendly motorcycle show. Although the show was free, they were raising money for some children with huge medical expenses. In a seperate fundraiser, they were raffling off a beautiful motorcycle to raise money for the Nebraska Firefighters Museum, to be built in nearby Kearney, Nebraska.

Minden folks put a lot of work into their Christmas light display. Visitors think its worth it, though.
Each December the old courthouse in Minden comes alive with thousands of Christmas lights, plus a pagaent is held on the lawn below. It is quite beautiful and impressive to see.
In the background is a gigantic grain storage elevator near Minden. But when a big harvest comes in, the elevator fills to capacity and more storage is needed. So, the corn is simply piled on the ground.
Agriculture is what you might call a local custom, a way of life. Here the Minden Grain Elevator, no doubt brim full with corn, stands proudly shining in the sun.
