O'Neill is a town of almost 4000 located in Northeast Nebraska. The town was named after its founder, John O'Neill, who sought to bring Irish settlers to Nebraska in the 1870s. The town is very proud of its Irish Heritage and has a number of Shamrocks on display including one reported to be the world's largest at the intersection of 4th and Douglas Streets. O'Neill is the county seat of Holt County. The architectural style of the courthouse resembles a number of other courthouses built in the 1930s.
