I think this is a no brainer, but yet there are those who just do not get it. I know from being a Mom, Myself and my hubby watched our boys like a hawk, especially my youngest. Because he is not afraid of heights at all. We were always near or his wonderful older brother stayed close too. The walls are thick and make it hard to leanne over and during summer these are concrete and absorb heat like crazy. So the throwing things off is a good caution because you could see workers down below coming to and from inside the dam. So lets keep them safe too!

The dam is located 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas on US Highway 93 at the Nevada-Arizona border.

When we visited in the 1980's there was only two lanes for cars to cross the dam. Highway U.S. Route 93 is very narrow with several dangerous curves, and is known to have rock slides. Since 911 many of the heavier vehicles such a semi trailers longer than 40, and buses with luggage, are not allowed and was diverted to another Highway.

Since the Oct 2010 opening of the new Mike O'Callaghan – Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, through traffic can bypass the dam all together. Now the only traffic allowed is the tourist looking for parking which they have provided at different levels. So be careful walking down the pathway.

The dam is located 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas on US Highway 93 at the Nevada-Arizona border.

Very hot. Given the fact that it can get up to and above 120 degrees in Boulder city and around the Hoover dam, you have to protect your self from the extreme heat! Wear white t-shirt and white pants or shorts. Protect your head with a hat or umbrella. protect your eyes with sunglasses and make sure you apply some kind of UV blocking sun lotion on your self. Bring plenty of water with you. The best idea is to just place a full bottle of drinking water in your freezer the day before you leave and that will keep you hydrated all day as the ice melts in your bottle, it'll keep your water cold.

What i didn't understood is that there were no signs warning you not to swim at the dam...It looks obvious but the put signs next to gators to in the everglades just take a look at my everglades site Everglades city.

As you can see the water at the dam is a bit turbulent.

The Hooverdam has 8 hydroelectric generators on the Nevada side, each of them is capable of producing 133,000 kilowatts. Due to the electromagnetic frequencies emitted by the generators, it is not recommended to take the tour when you have a pacemaker.

The walls of the dam are very tall so don't fall over if you're at the top. I don't think you'll live to talk about it if you do fall.
