Carson City is still desert and the weather can change quickly and dramatically. While I was visiting it was fairly warm; then they predicted snow overnight. The snowfall did not quite get to the elevation of Carson City but was rather heavy slightly higher. You need to keep an eye on the weather here.
Remember that Nevada is a desert and has lots of lonely roads and empty spaces. Be sure to have basic emergency supplies when you travel, especially water. Let someone know where you're going if you planning an overnight camping trip or long hike - check in the forestry dept at the very least. Also, northern Nevada can be quite cold during the winter, so check for storm warnings before heading out.
