The gas station portion of the Empire Store & Deli has this big blue monster to greet you as you drive up State Route 447 into Empire and Gerlach.

It's the only store in town. I noted a lot of traffic stopping by, I bet it's really busy during the Burning Man Festival each year at the Black Rock Desert near Gerlach.
What to buy: You can get cards created from local pictures, Burning Man Festival souveniers such as videos and calendars, gas, snacks... Guess it's the nightlife too, you can rent DVD's and VHS there.
What to pay: Less than Bristol Bay, so I was pleased.

Favorite thing: Here is a view south toward Empire from across the Playa (dry lake bed) at Black Rock Desert. This is a distance of at least ten miles from what I figure... you can of course only see the steam from USG's drywall plant.
