The scenery en route alone makes this a place worth visiting. But, if you have the time and the weather, a more in depth exploration is in order.
This is definitely the place for the water enthusiast stuck in the middle of the desert and needing an aquatic fix. Fishing is extremely popular here, as are waterskiing, boating, kayaking and canoeing. Several marinas in the area rent personal watercraft such as kayaks and canoes as well as larger speedboats.
Although you won't find any coral reefs here, it is possible to scuba dive the fresh waters of the lake. Raft trips are another option here, although you won't find any Class IV or V rapids in the calm waters.
Hiking is another option. There are several short trails that provide views of the surrounding area.

Fondest memory: Aside from fish feeding, boating and etc. The Area also contains a surprising variety of plants and animals...don't be surprised once you encounter a desert Bighorn sheep and a desert tortoise on your way!
Unlucky we didn't found one but we've seen one tortoise in other Las Vegas Rec.Area.
Start your day at Lake Mead Marina. The lake is very clean and looks like ideal for swimming, they said best time is during spring , summer and fall but wind seems to be cooled to swim that day although it was mid april, these should be a bit early.
Fondest memory: I think just observing the blue lake is what I am missing., I like the place and seems to be great for weekend getaway although too far from Belgium...glad I have been there.
Favorite thing: I took this picture along Lake Mead in late March 2005. It's quite unusual for the hillsides to be this green.
