Favorite thing: These statues are in the front of Luxor Hotel & Casino and are probably frequently photographed. They represent Rameses II at his Temple in Abu Simbel. If you notice his cartouches with the title of his name on each of his arms and chest. He sits upon a throne and on the bottom of the throne are reliefs. One of them are nubian slaves. The last photo is of another relief of Rameses II name in honor and these gods are wearing Hapi head gear they signifies he rules both god of Upper and Lower Egypt.

Favorite thing: This relief is of Anubis the god with the Jackal Head and Ba:
Anubis was the Egyptian god of the dead, depicted with the black head of a jackal or dog. Many Egyptian gods were perceived as 'human hybrids' depicted with human bodies with the heads of animals. The ancient Egyptians did not worship animals - the depiction of a god as an animal was a device to visually convey the identity, qualities and attributes of the god. Egyptian Gods, like Anubis, were always depicted as young & healthy. Ba (ba)
Appearance: The ba was always portrayed as a human-headed bird, usually a human-headed falcon. The ba bird was often shown hovering over the deceased's mummy or leaving or entering the tomb at will.

Meaning: The word ba is usually translated as "soul" or "spirit". However, ba is probably better translated as "spiritual manifestation."

The ba is one of the specific components of the human being as understood in Egyptian thought. In the New Kingdom, the ba was a spiritual aspect of the human being which survived - or came into being - at death. It was endowed with the person's individuality and personality. Favorite thing: I do not get to travel wordly and VT is fantastic because it allows me to see those parts of the world I will not get to see. So the Luxor, has these wonderful replicas of actual egyptian reliefs. So I wanted to learn more about them. Not an easy task, but the internet is a wonderful educational tool. This relief is located towards the front and on the sides of the hotel.

This relief is called "Rameses III Censing and Libating before Ptah-Sokar-Osiris, protected by winged Isis".

Favorite thing: This replica is a relief in The Tomb of Ramses II, Valley of the Kings, Thebes Egypt. It is Horus and Pharaoh Rames II wearing the Triple Atef / Hemhem / Mandulis Crown

Triple Rush Crown set on long spiral ram's horns and flanked with ostrich feathers, often with a Uraeus (cobra) on either side, each surmounted by a solar disk. Frequently combined with the Nemes. The name of the crown means "scream" or "war cry."

Favorite thing: This is Nubian (Sudan) King Taharqa and Queen Tukahatamun, 1849 A.D. Taharqa also ruled Kemet's (Ancient Egypt), 25th Dynasty

Taharqa's reign can be dated from 690 BC to 664 BC. Taharqa was a pharaoh of the Ancient Egyptian 25th dynasty and king of the Kingdom of Kush, which was located in Northern Sudan.

This relief is of King Taharqa followed by Queen Takahatamun at Gebel Barkal (Nubia) bringing offerings to Amen Ra with Amun (disk headdress) and the Goddess Mut (Peshent crown).

Favorite thing: Located in the front of the Temple of Luxor by the street is the replica pylon or obelisk. The carving are of episodes are from the Battle of Kadesh, when Ramesses and his army defeated the forces of the Hittites and their alliesis. The origianl is one of a red granite pair which Ramesses erected in front of the pylon and its twin now in the Place de la Concorde, in Paris.

On the pedestal are carved the four sacred baboons who were the first to greet the morning sun. Three lines of vertical inscription on every face of the obelisk repeat the names and titles of Ramesses the Great: The Horus, Mighty Bull, Exalter of Thebes, Favorite of the Two Goddesses, establishing monuments in Luxor for his father Amun, who placed him upon the throne; Golden Horus, seeking excellent things for him who fashioned him; King of Upper and Lower Egypt, Usermare, Chosen of Re."http://www.touregypt.net/lxtmpl2.htm

The cartouches are interesting and are complicated, but it has been educational in trying to learn what they say. I added a photo that illustrates what the cartouches stand for.

Favorite thing: Located towards the front of the Luxor Resort and Casino is a relief replica located in the Tomb of Khnumhotep II. He was an elite commoner - overseer of royal projects in the 12th Dynasty Middle Kingdom. Located within his tomb on the east wall flanking doorway, Khnumhotep and his wife are shown fishing and fowling in the marshes, on punts using harpoons; above the niche are exquisitely painted species of birds in flight.

There are two sides and this is only the right side of the relief.

Khnumhotep II Tomb is located in Beni Hasan approximately 20 kilometers to the south of modern-day Minya in the region known as Middle Egypt.

Favorite thing: I am sure many folks have no idea this is a replica of a actual place, except of you worldly travelers;^).

It's called The Avenue of the Grand Criosphinxes (sphinx with the head of a ram instead of a human) that flanked the entrance to the Temples of Karnak and the Temple of Luxor. This avenue (long stone processional street called a dromos)was more than 3 km long, and had at one time more than 2000 sphinxes. These were build by King Nectanebo 1 in the 4th century, about 1,000 years after the temples. At least Vegas tries to convey some history of the themes they copy.

Favorite thing: Although my travels are limited to the states and to certain places. I so enjoy some of the silliest details. Las Vegas is a easy place for us to visit and everytime we come across certain details that I think many people may not recognize. I can honestly say I appreciate the effort these mega resorts put into replicating some of the historical content of the themes of their hotels. I am not as worldly traveler as some of you wonderful VTer's, but I do read a lot and love history as you can tell. So seeing the front the Luxor I knew it had some historical reasoning to the design and landscaping.

So I happened to look down in the parking lot, and I do not why it was not added to some more of area of honor, but I knew it replicated something significant.

The painting is of The Tomb of Nakht on the West Bank at Luxor.

The shows a flocks of rising birds and Nakhjt with his wife and their two small sons in a papyrus boat, holding hunting sticks. Called a double register scene. The top of the painting shows peasants gathering grapes, while others press them to make wine. In the lower painting shows the days catch of birds that are being dragged in a net, while others are sown carefully plucking and cleaning the birds (Mark Andrews, 2003).

Favorite thing: I saw Blue Man Group at Luxor in Vegas. It's only so so. The best part is music, which is NOT made from PVC pipes as many think, but performed by a regular band. Besides music, the show prides itself in getting the audience involved. But I think it's nonsense. For example, before the show begins, the staff distributes rolls and rolls of toilet paper and encourages the audience to "decorate themselves". Haha those who watch the whole show with toilet paper hanging from their head must feel stupid afterwards.
