Limousine / Taxi: The Taxi Snake at McCarren
When you finally emerge from baggage claim you encounter the taxi rank. And what a rank!!! But actually it is pretty well organized and well run. At first glance we couldn't imagine how long we would be before getting into a cab. I mean the line was LOOOONG!! So we fell into line and to our surprise we hardly stopped moving. The line snaked along, back and forth about five times and within 15 minutes we were up front and directed to Station 6 where a cab pulled up, we piled in and were on our way.
Mrs. B is always sure to engage cabbies in conversation as she thinks you get good information that way. I'm not so sure. Anyway, this driver was from Tennessee, works 12 hour shifts (so he claimed) and liked to talk. By the time we arrived at Caesar's we knew his wife's name, his kids birthdays and his hometown in Tennessee. So we gratefully rewarded him for all that information with a generous tip. See, I told you we were from out of town.

    Plane / Airport: Southwest
We flew Southwest from Ontario, California to Las Vegas. Flight time just 45 minutes. When you arrive at the airport there is a little train that will bring you to the Baggage Claim.
Just outside of the baggage claim area is where all the limo's park that you can hire and I believe airport shuttles too. We used a Sedan from "Bell Trans" to go from the airport to Luxor hotel - price $5 per person.

Did you know Philippine Airlines flies to Vegas from Vancouver for almost half the price Air Canada does! Check it out!

Plane / Airport: Las Vegas McCarron Airport
Just a few miles south of the strip, Las Vegas airport is a convenient gateway to the city. However, if you are transferring here, this might be a big pain in the butt. I flew into Terminal A on US Airways with a transferring flight on United. The departure monitors in Terminal A do not even show the United flights, so I had to wander around for 20 minutes just to try and figure out which gate my flight would leave from. After wandering Terminals A & B and seeing nothing, I realized I had to head toward Terminals C & D, and out of the secure area, to find monitors and get to these terminals. Turns out my flight departed from Terminal D, so back through a different security point to Terminal D. I don't know about you, but for me the security checkpoint where they strip you down and search your carry-on items is the worst part of flying (especially when you have to deal with a bag of liquids, a laptop, jacket, shoes, a bag, and everything in your pockets)... The last thing I want to do is repeat the wonderful security experience.

Probably the coolest thing in the Vegas airport is the slot machines throughout the terminal.

I was very surprised to discover Las Vegas Airport was the 10th busiest airport in the world with about 44 million passengers in 2005.

    Plane / Airport: Private plane
I know that's quite unique type of transportation and very comfortable.

Plane / Airport: Welcome to Con Air
Nicolas Cage flew to Las Vegas on Con Air, together with a planeload of killers and rapists, including John Malkovich and Steve Buscemi at their most evil and psychotic. The 1997 movie was a big success and offered plenty of blood and action, culminating in a crash landing along the Strip in Las Vegas. Old Cliffie has seen the film a couple of times. And he has always driven to Las Vegas.

    Plane / Airport: Busy airport
If you can avoid Con Air, the more conventional way to arrive in Las Vegas is at McCarran International Airport. It is one of the busiest airports in the world, handling more passengers every year than San Francisco, Singapore or Tokyo. And if you are desperate to gamble, there are slot machines in the arrivals hall.
