Hundreds of people with their noses pointing up, and the wonderful technology at money's service.
From time to time, a sort of movies flows in the several hundred meters long roof, providing two shows: the show itself and the animation under it. Not to be missed... it's free!
Make sure to save an evening for The Freemont Street Experience. The downtown area was spruced up a few years ago and the "Viva Vision Canopy" with more than 12 million lights is always good for a laugh. Especially with one of those huge liquor slurpees from Blue Bayouor beer from one of the kiosks on the street!
Shows start at 9 pm and then play on the hour until midnight(?).
I love the old neon signs down here, especially Glitter Gulch and The Golden Goose and always loose a few coins at the many casinos!

Good walking shoes and seasonal attire. I needed a coat in December.
r15 years ago, my husband Allan and I visited Las Vegas on our way to a 3-month stay in California. Part of the time, we stayed on Fremont Street in the 4 Queens for about $20.00 a night! Vegas, at the time, was trying to convert to a "family friendly location. Unfortunatley, that idea was not successful. Today, the trend is toward adult entertainment. However, fortunately, the "Fremont Street Experience has improved.
Mickey and I, on this trip, wanted to see Fremont Street, and so we took a free shuttle from our resort that dropped us off in front of the 4 Queens and returned about 3 1/2 hours later. We were worried about this long amount of time; however, we need not have worried. We walked the strip, stopped in at several casinos, joined the 4 Queens Player's Club, gambled there, ate a great dinner in the Golden Nugget, and met our awaiting shuttle on time. The best part of it was seeing it all again and seeing how improved the light and music show was.
As my photographs indicate, the Neon City is still "alive and kicking"!

My only warning is to be sure to stay on Fremont, and if it looks "dicey" at any time, turn around and go back to the most busy areas. The 4 Queens and The Golden Nugget were our favorite places.
On your visit to Vegas, don't forget to explore the Fremont Street experience for a fun time and a return to the way Las Vegas was in the beginning.
A strip club right on Fremont street in Downtown Las Vegas. Yeah, that's right, a strip club right next to all those hotels, only in Las Vegas.
As part of Freemont Street experience, you may try this strip club if you are into it. I actually did not have the chance to go inside the club due to time constraint but I might try this one the next time I visit the city. Let us give it a try!
We went to the Fremont St for newyears. It was great. There was live bands and all kinds of different street shows and booths. The crowds was pretty well off and No problems that we seen. Security was all over a.d The people were very nice. You could go from store to casino. There was pleanty to eat and drink. The canopy shows were excellent.
They did a year in history just before the countdown. Then there were fireworks and a light show at the same time.
My hats off to the Fremont Street staff for throwing a great show!!!!!!!

Hmmm Anything goes.......
When in Vegas it is well worth a trip to the Fremont Street experience. Fremont is a pedestrianised walkway with a free light show on the ceiling every hour. There are casinos, bars and restaurants here as well as street entertainment and places to buy souvenirs. There are lots of the famous old casinos here like the Golden Nugget. Also don't forget to wave at Vegas Vic and Vegas Vicky!
The Fremont Street Experience is what you make it. When we were here we watched the free light show, strolled around, got free mardi gras beads from the ladies dressed up at the casino doors, drank strawberry daiquiris from novelty cups, watched the street entertainment which consisted of a man doing brilliant trapeze acts with some ribbon suspended from the ceiling and motorbike stuntmen who were driving around doing tricks inside a metal spherical cage outside The Plaza (see photos for more).
There were alot of people walking around with novelty cups but the best ones by far were sold by a man at a stall at The Plaza end of the street. Be warned, if you intend to take your novelty cups home, make sure you finish your drink or hide it in your bag because they won't let you on the Deuce bus back if you have an open drink!
Downtown is easy to get to, we just got the monorail to the Sahara Hotel then caught the Deuce bus down to Fremont. There are always plenty of people milling around so you're unlikely to get lost.

The Fremont Street Experience is a lively, active and fun time for a break and change off the Las Vegas Strip.
The big attraction seems to be the light & music show which plays on the "ceiling" which is a quasi-dome covering several blocks of downtown old Las Vegas.
Viva Vision, the LED display “canopy,” rising 90 feet in height and stretching 1,400 feet along the Fremont Street Experience promenade from Main Street to Fourth Street, forms a spectacular foyer for the existing resorts. Holding the canopy aloft are 16 columns, each weighing 26,000 pounds and capable of bearing 400,000 pounds, and 43,000 struts.
Stretching the length of nearly five football fields, Viva Vision serves as the showcase for the light and sound shows and the world’s largest graphic display system. A section comprising one fiftieth of the total canopy equals the size of the world’s current largest electric sign. Originally, nearly 2.1 million incandescent lights were housed in the canopy. With the completion of the $17 million investment, more than 12 million LED lamps illuminate the overhead canopy, creating a never-before-seen color spectrum. Within the canopy itself are 220 speakers capable of producing 550,000 watts of concert-quality sound.
Neonopolis, forming the east end of the pedestrian mall, where Las Vegas Boulevard South meets Fremont Street, is a $100 million open-air restaurant, shop and entertainment complex with a 14-screen Crown Theaters movie theater
There is also:
Light & Sound Show
Pedestrian Mall
Parking structure
Marketplace shopping
Neon Museum
All in all, a nice change from the Strip

With its $70 million light canopy, $17 million in upgrades and 550,000-watt sound system, the Fremont Street Experience is sure to mesmerize.
Positioned 90 feet above Fremont Street, the attraction stretches 1,400 feet and consists of 12.5 million synchronized LED modules, including 180 strobes and eight robotic mirrors per block. It's capable of producing millions of color combinations, animation and video feeds, allowing the display to switch from a swirling ocean setting to a television broadcast in minutes.
The Fremont Street Experience is the perfect place to take in the "real" Vegas. With the groundbreaking technology of the sound and light show alongside some of Vegas' oldest and best-known neon signs (Glitter Gulch's Vegas Vickie and the equally recognizable Vegas Vic), the spirit of Las Vegas is truly represented.

At the Fremont Street Experience promenade, guests are able to shop at a number of retail shops, kiosks and souvenir stands while waiting for the sound and light shows to begin. In addition, entertainment can be found with a number of street performers and musicians.
Fremont Street is a part of downtown las vegas, the casinos and hotels around it created the Fremont Street Experience. It is covered with a ceiling that is about 1,400 feet long consisting of more than 2 milion lights that are used to project "cartoon" videoclips above your head, supported by music through an enormous speakersystem. The street is very illuminated and some musicians play music all the night.
