The Stratosphere hotel in the only major on the strip hotel that is actually located withing the boundaries of las vegas and is the only major hotel cum casino complex that is located on the strip (Las Vegas Boulevard) that is far away from the major groupings of Casino and Hotel Complexes at the Mid Strip Area near Fashion Mall. This was were I Stayed in 1995 and has one of the cheapest hotel rates for strip hotels. It's Tower is a things to do and a night time activity area too since it is touted to be the tallest free standing tower west of the Misissippi (Jutting 1,149 feet into the Vegas skyline) and the spectacular views of Las Vegas glitters at night.
The activities inside the tower include the Windows of the world Buffett Restaurant, Level 107 Lounge, The Big Shot Ride and the Sky Jump ride and the two level Observation Deck.

The tower is open 24 hours a day.

    Stratosphere Tower: Polly Esthers

Update 5/13/09 - Polly Esthers lost their liquor license & is now closed.

Polly Esthers is a great option is you simply want to have fun. There are 4 separate nightclubs in one that play every kind of music imaginable. The decor ranges from retro to ultra-contemporary. The lines are reasonable on the weekend. This club is an excellent alternative to PURE, Tao, Jet, or LAX. Especially if you dont want to wait in line for an hour or pay the doorman $100.00 to skip the line.

Dress Code: No ripped jeans or sneakers.

Stratosphere Tower: Thrill seekers and the The Strat-O-Fair.

View at The Strip seen from the Stratosphere Tower

Thrill seekers can enjoy excitement over 100 stories above the ground on the Big Shot thrill ride and the High Roller roller coaster, which is the world highest roller coaster as it takes riders around the outside of the pod. With 32 degree angles the High Roller literally takes riders over the edge.

For less daring there is the Strat-O-Fair midway attraction. The Strat-O-Fair features a renovated Ferris Wheel from circa 1958 and a child size Little Slot.

Last but not least the Tower is equipped with a special lighting system designed to provide a spectacular dancing light show nightly, which is visible throughout the Las Vegas Valley.

Stratosphere Tower: Tallest building west of the Mississippi River.

Looking at the Stratosphere Tower from The Strip.

At 1,149 feet, the Stratosphere Tower is the tallest freestanding observation tower in the United States and the tallest building west of the Mississippi River. The Stratosphere Hotel and Casino opened in 1996 with 1500 rooms.

Being in Las Vegas you will notice that the Stratosphere Tower definately is a landmark. We stayed at the Hilton Hotel just one block away from The Strip, but had a good view at the Tower.

    Stratosphere Tower: See it all

You think to go to the top of the Stratosphere you must be at an airport due to the x-ray security you have to go through at the bottom before entering the elevator. It's to protect us all so don't criticize. You can see the whole Las Vegas area from the location. One of the best views in all of LV. We were able to do this tour through a tour group that we spent 6 hours with, seeing the best of Vegas.

The observation tower in the Startosphere is well worth a visit at night.
Fantastic views of Las Vegas and if you are bold enough, ride the rollar coaster or take on the Big Shot.
Lukilly for me, both rides were closed when we visited due to wind....phew.
It cost us $6 each to visit the observation deck, extra for the rides if you are so bold!

    Stratosphere show--- Superstars.
The actors and actresses in this show are VERY good. I especially like the fiddler impersonator of Charlie Daniels, he played the violin superbly! Even the chorus line dancers were very well choreographed. Some of the other superstars impersonated were Elvis, Ricky Martin, Christine Agulara (sp?), and Michael Jackson.

    Dress Code: Casual.

Here you can see for miles over Las vegas and surrounding areas. You go up in an elevator and there's even a shop at the top. You can peer through the glass panelled observatory or go outside and watch the whole town come alive.
