    Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus #2~

    27 B. C. - 14 A. D.
    Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus
    "Octavian"

This replica graces the front lobby and lots of people are taking photographs of him.

27 years before Jesus Christ was born, the Senate of Rome bestowed upon Octavian the title Augustus. Augustus became the first "Emperor", which comes from the military title imperator. In actuality he became no more than first senator, yet he skillfully combined within himself all the powers of consul, tribune, and other offices.

Augustus controlled the strongest military provinces and brought a great Roman peace (Pox Romana) which extended all the way to the Danube River and the Black Sea.
Augustus was the greatest Emperor in all of Roman history, and the title "Father of his country" since he transformed Rome "from a city of brick into a city of marble."

Augustus was very religious, as celebrated in the famous Altar of Peace in the city of Rome. He restored as many as 80 temples, he attempted to regulate morals, and he even banished his own daughter Julia for her immorality. He encouraged marriage and childbearing and he even used legislation to do so. In fact according to his census records the number of Roman citizens grew from 4,000,000 in eight BC to 5,000,000 in 14 A.D.

It was during this time of great peace in the reign of Augustus that Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem. He would have been born in Nazareth, the home of his parents Joseph and Mary, had it not been for the census ordered by Augustus, requiring all adults to register at their ancestral home towns. The original is at Augustus of Prima Porta, statue of the emperor Augustus in Museo Chiaramonti, Vatican, Rome.

Whenever we stay at the Grand Desert, we get free transportation to her sister hotel, which Harrah's. We must have passed by this very unique statue a so many times. It is just one of those show pieces Harrah's has available for people to take some fun photo's with. It is located towards that back entrance as the end of the gaming floor if your interested to see this fun couple. We watched one gentleman try to pull at the dollars bills to see if he could free it and nope, it was not budging....lol!.

Just another feature I thinks gets unappreciated. I find everything fascinating and find these beautiful pieces of architecture.

If you look closer at the chandelier in La Salso Cantina the glass is shaped like champagne glasses. The other very unique chandelier is at the entrance of PH Miracle Mile Mall. Each of the crystals hang separately to create the sphere.

As you come thru the entrance, along the walls & ceilings in the Venetian are some of the most impressive paintings. There are suppose to be replicas of paintings by four different artists—Tiepolo, Rici, Pellogrini, and Bambino of 17th an 18th centuries. I am always in awe whenever we come to the Venetian.

    Paris Ballon

Has anyone just looked up and marveled at the replicated architecture of each of the themes of the casino's? Every time we go I notice something new. Paris Hotel & Casino has the Eiffel Tower and one aspect I think gets lost is the beautiful ballon. This is suppose to represent that brothers Joseph-Michel Montgolfier and Jacques-Étienne Montgolfier inventors of the montgolfière (hot air balloon) globe aérostatique. The brothers succeeded in launching the first manned ascent, carrying Étienne into the sky. Now a replica stands proudly in front of Paris Hotel and Casino for of us to enjoy.

    Hippocampus

The hippocampus often called a sea-horse, which is a mythological creature shared by Phoenician and Greek mythology, though the name is Greek; it is part of Etruscan mythology also. These are lovely replica's located along the sidewalk strip as part of Caesars Palace. They are massive and very beautiful to me.
