by Mambino What’s better than nursing a hangover poolside? The Beach is great – the only hassle is that you’ve really got to motivate and get down there early enough to claim lounge chairs. They fill up very quickly and are essential to your pool time enjoyment. While you’re there, make sure to check out the lazy river off in the corner. Even after multiple stays at Mandalay Bay, I had no idea it was there. It’s a nice change of scenery from poolside and makes for a great break from the desert heat. If you can’t spot it, don’t be afraid to ask one of the servers to direct you. Club Morrea. This is the “private” pool adjacent to the already epic beach/pool available to guests of the Mandalay Bay. The cost for entry is $25, and in my opinion, is worth every penny. It is a “topless optional” pool, and although I rarely mind seeing naked breasts in my line of vision, I would hardly say the topless aspect is its strongest feature. Sometimes it’s just nice to enjoy “Adult Swim” all day long. Your $25 goes toward a stylish and understated pool landscape. There are no children running around screaming for their parents and friends to come play with them. The area is much smaller, so it’s easier to either meet your fellow patrons, or catch a glimpse of whatever US Weekly regular who may have flown in from LA for the weekend. X-Scream at the Stratosphere by windsorgirl After a visit to the Las Vegas Visitor's Centre we were directed to the Stratosphere for a great deal on an evening's entertainment. For only $44, we rode 900 feet to the top of the tower (which alone is a $9 value), we enjoyed a sumptuous seafood buffet, AND we saw an excellent impersonators show with two free drinks! Considering almost all of the other shows in town start at $50 and up, and that's just for the show....we thought this was a great deal! We planned our visit to the Observation Deck to coincide with sunset. That way, we could see the city by day, and by night and possibly catch a great sunset in between. Apart from admiring the view, it was fun to watch the new thrill ride located on top of the Stratosphere. It is called X-SCream and it plunges its riders literally over the edge of the platform and dangles them 900 feet above the Strip. The impersonator's show was called American Superstars and featured the obligatory Elvis, along with Ricky Martin, Britanny Spears, Charlie Daniels and my favourite, Michael Jackson. He was a fabulous dancer and entertainer....and not as creepy as the real Michael! The couple sitting next to us had been to the show 3 times, they liked it so much! I recommend that you see it at least once while in Vegas. Leave a Comment

Pirate show by emilienoelle Arrrrghh. This is probably the coolest free show I have ever seen. Performed 6 times a night, this show is so realistic that you feel instantly transported to the 19th Cen. Caribbean or onto a Hollywood film set. You can actually feel the heat from the cannon fire during the fierce battle between the pirates and the British Royal Navy. As an extra bonus, ladies, the pirates are all very easy on the eyes. Makes you happy that they win! Leave a Comment Address: 3300 S. Luxor Entrance by emilienoelle Hotels in Vegas are not only places to stay, but attractions. The Luxor Hotel is a giant Egyptian-style pyramid. Even I, a skeptic and self-proclaimed expert detector of cheesiness, had to admit that this place was pretty damn cool. To enter the hotel you walk through a giant Sphinx and are immediately greeted by fountains and ancient looking statues. Look up and you will see the inside of the pyramid and the neat elevators that travel on an angle to accomodate the hotel's structure. The sheer size of the building is awe inspiring. Inside the Luxor is a to-scale reproduction of King Tut's tomb. For a small fee you can take a self-guided tour of this with a tape recording that you conrol. All of the artifacts have been recreated here exactly as they were found in the real tomb. It was a lot of fun as well as educational! For families with kids the Luxor would also be a great place to go because they have an IMAX theatre as well as inexpensive and kid friendly food options such as Pizza Hut and Burger King. Gondola at the Venetian by windsorgirl The Venetian is another luxurious hotel along Las Vegas Boulevard. Here, you can admire wonderful old world European architecture as colourful gondoliers guide tourists along canals of unnaturally blue water. You can venture inside to the shopping arcade where the a/c will keep you cool but you will still feel like you're outdoors under the ceilings of painted clouds. Grab a seat in St. Marks square and wait for the next free performance of Italian Opera singers or living statues. It's a great place to relax and cool off when the temperature is soaring outside! Fremont Street by windsorgirl Many people don't venture to the old downtown section of Las Vegas, I think it is worth the effort to get here. Here, you will see the stylish neon signs of old like Vegas Vic and Vickie. You can also catch an evening light show which is cast upward onto a huge steel canopy which covers the entire street. The shows are shown on the hour beginning at dusk and last about 7 minutes. I'll admit that I was hoping for a more psychedelic experience but instead saw cartoons of space aliens. Regardless, it was still very well done and did I mention, free. Fremont street is closed to vehicles so, it is very nice to stroll along the pedestrian mall, enjoying yard long margaritas and free entertainment. It is a great place to shop for cheap souveniers and post cards. It is also easy to visit several casinos in a very short time since they lack the bohemeth proportions of the new Strip Casinos. We stopped into the Golden Nugget to see "the nugget" for which the casino is named. It is the world's largest, weighing in at 61 lbs! It looks like a giant golden turd. The strip from the Stratosphere by madamx The Stratosphere is 1,149 feet high, and taller than the Eiffel Tower ( we're talking Paris, France, not Paris Las Vegas). The ride up goes amazingly fast, less than a minute. The views are actually quite breathtaking, and they do recommend you go twice; once during the day, and the other at night. However, we didn't have time to return at night, so we'll have to make it a priority the next time. If you want to send someone over the edge, or love thrill rides, make sure you go on The Big Shot. This ride is located on the tower's top needle, and shoots riders up with the force of four G's, then drops them at zero G's -- avoid this if you have a pacemaker! My husband rated this the best ride in Vegas, bar none. The other thrill ride that is worth taking is X-Scream. Basically, this is a giant teeter-totter that is on the edge of the Stratosphere tower, and you are dangled over the edge of the tower, back and forth. If you do have someone riding on the X-Scream, have them sit in the front, and you can actually take their picture from the enclosed observation area of the tower with a backdrop of Vegas. The High Roller roller coaster was closed when we were there, but I have heard that it's a very slow, short roller coaster and not really worth it. For a full day pass, it's about $26.00 US, which includes all rides and tower admission. This is worth it if you are a big fan of rides, and go on them a couple of times each. For the tower admission alone, it's $10.00, and and extra $4.00 if you return the anytime the same day. Leave a Comment

L'arc de Triomphe at Night by emilienoelle Oh, the Paris. This was a cool place to be sure and the closest thing I've seen to an adult version of a Disney Theme Park. The casino has a funky 19th Century Moulin Rouge-type flair to it and all of the employees speak with hard-won French accents. Upon entering you are greeted by a friendly, "Bon jour, Madame." They also have a ride here that can take you to the top of their 50% scale Eiffel Tower. We didn't take it, but I imagine the view up there is great. We found the food here to be some of the best on the Strip. The buffet here is great, especially for breakfast when they have their pastries fresh from their own French bakery. One of our favorite restaurants is also in the Paris, Le Provencal, as well as my very favorite bar, the Napoleon Bar. (I love Napoleon, so you may think this is biased, but it is a beautiful room.) If nothing else, browse through the shops here. There are some cool things to see, even if no one can afford them! Leave a Comment Address: 3655 S. acrobats at Circus Circus by windsorgirl On our trek down the Strip to the Stratosphere (it's not as close as it looks!) we had to stop in to Circus Circus to cool off and rest a bit. We decided to catch one of the free circus acts that are shown from 11am onward. Ours featured 4 acrobats swinging and tumbling above us while we watched awestruck from beneath their safety net. The performance lasted about 15 minutes and did I mention, it was free. Leave a Comment Address: 2880 S. Get up close and personal with a dolphin by madamx The Secret Garden of Seigfried and Roy sounds tacky in typical Las Vegas style, but it was probably one of the best things I have seen in Las Vegas. This attraction consists of three bottle-nosed dolphin pools, plus a collection of rare white and golden tigers. An asian elephant is also part of the group as well, and this is all set in beautiful, manicured shrubbery and flowers. The area is cleaner than any zoo that I've been in, and is actually a research station, affiliated with many major zoos around the world that the famous duo have contacted to set up breeding programs. What is so great about this is that you can actually get very close to the dolphins and sit on the edge of the pool, to watch them train and be exercised which you can't do at other dolphin exhibits. Often, they will do flips and turns on their own, or play, which is quite entertaining to sit back and watch. You also get to see what magnificent creatures the white tigers are, and do make sure you see the rare snow white tiger. Also, be careful, as they are cats -- one of them sprayed a crowd of people in front of his area, maybe getting a little revenge for himself. If not for the animals, go here to get a whiff of fresh air. Smoking is not allowed in the area, and we realized here how much cigarette smoke we had been exposed to in Vegas, after breathing in the clean, clean air of the Secret Garden. It's a wonderful oasis to escape the crowds and noise of Vegas. The entry fee is $12 per adult, and really is worth it. You can stay as long as you like. Leave a Comment Address: 3400 S. Las Vegas BlvdPhone: (702) 791-7111Directions: Located in the Mirage Hotel and Casino. The signs inside the hotel are very confusing, best to ask one of the employees how to get there.Website: http://www.themirage.com
