    The lights, man, the lights!

A four block long canopy of lights covers Fremont Street and, at night, the little lights twinkle every hour on the hour to produce elaborate, four block long, overhead cartoon shows. People crowd to around to "ooh" and "ahh" during the show.

According to the website: "The Fremont Street Experience is a world famous, one of a kind entertainment venue in the heart of Las Vegas' downtown central core comprised of a 90 foot high, four block long electronic canopy that presents spectacular sight and sound shows. These nightly shows are free to the public and deliver an incredible array of sight and sound musical adventures employing the world's largest electric sign and over 550,000 watts of concert quality sound. Complementing this unique, high tech entertainment canopy is an open air pedestrian mall lined with Las Vegas' most legendary vintage casinos and hotels. In addition, the pedestrian mall has numerous stages and venues presenting a wide range of shows, musical ensembles and concerts for a constant flow of fun loving entertainment. The Fremont Street Experience district entertains over 15 million annual visitors and serves as a backdrop for movies, television, commercials and special events."

The street is closed to cars...great for souvenir shopping and just gawking without having to worry about getting run over.

The downtown area of Las Vegas is a must visit. In a area of 4 city blocks you can find many of the original casinos that made LV what it is. You can also find many venders set up with all kinds of cool stuff to buy. This area is known as Glitter Gulch and you will get that feeling of days gone by as you stroll along.

This is a computer generated light and sound show that takes place on a canapy stretching over 4 blocks of Freemont Sreet 90ft in the air. They recently did a complete overhaul and added even more lights and a better sound system. Shows are every hour from 8 pm until 12 midnight and vary each hour. It is a must see in my book!

Go downtown to check out some of the older casinos and to see the Fremont Street Experience, an elaborate music and light show. The street is only open to Pedestrains and the entertainment is free! Well until a casino or girly show lures you inside than your on your own...
The Experience is a 70 million dollar project that has changed the downtown scene dramatically. It is now a "family friendly" area that tourists flock to.

    Meet a Mermaid

Honestly, the casinos in old downtown are pretty, well, old. It's amazing to see the contrast versus the new casinos. I swear too that at the casino we visited that the roulette wheel was rigged! Nonetheless, one good thing about going here though was meeting a mermaid.

This is where the original "strip" was in Las Vegas. A lot of the old original casinos are in this are. The light show that takes place here every day and night is an absolute must see. The show actually takes place over your head in the street. It is one of the most incredible shows I have ever seen and is not to be missed.

The Freemont Street Experience is a light and music show that goes on from 7:00 PM through midnight. Freemont has been closed to traffic and there are vendors with all types of souvenirs and gifts. The street has been covered with a network of lights and a computer runs various scenic shows while appropriate music is played.

The best to place to watch this, is the balcony (2nd Floor) of the Fitzgerald’s with a tasteful cocktail. BUT GET THERE EARLY to get a seat on the balcony. (FREEBIE)

Fremont Street is a good time for cheap drinks and free entertainment. Since I'm not much of a gambler I mostly sat under the light canopy and sipped on my yard-long Margarita while my friends gambled their hard-earned cash.

To counterattack the large hotels on the Strip, the downtown hotels around Fremont Street created the Fremont Street Experience.

Fremont Street is covered with a ceiling that is about 1,400 feet long consisting of more than 2 milion lights that are used to project "cartoon" videoclips above your head, supported by music through an enormous speakersystem. These shows are played every hour from dusk till midnight (duration +/- 10 minutes)

Downtown and the Fremont Street Experience are a lot of fun.
As a way of attracting visitors back downtown --where the action used to be in the old days - and to revive its somewhat disreputable reputation in 1994-95 the 11 downtown casinos/hotels built the Fremont St. Experience, which includes a 5-block 1,400 long, 90 ft. tall light and sound show that plays every night on the hour from 7 to 11 p.m.
The street is blocked off to traffic and there are street performers, vendors, live music, etc etc.
I think it's a lot of fun, and has been very successful. Fremont St. feels safe, and I think has brought a lot of people who would otherwise stay only on the Strip.

"It's Free" - Do go downtown and experience "The Fremont Street Experience". It's very colorful as the canopy overhead changes programs with music and lighting affects. You can wander into the shops and wander out for the next light show.

These nightly shows are free to the public and deliver an incredible array of sight and sound musical adventures employing the world's largest electric sign and over 550,000 watts of concert quality sound. Old Vegas is a fun trip with all the old classic casinos. Once the sun goes down every hour on the hour there is a huge overhead light show that encompasses 4 blocks. Lots of street performers and bands and more neon per square foot then anywhere else in town. Great time! Nice to hit some of the dive casinos up this way- ie lady luck or 4 queens and get away from some of the glamour and excess wealth.

The Freemont Street Experience is in my opinion one of the best attractions in Las Vegas. For one, it's free and surrounded by shops and restaurants that charge next to nothing but also because this is the best way to see Vegas as it was. Most of the original casinos remain here at downtown Las Vegas where as on the strip they will happily blow one spectacular hotel up to make way for another.

The highlight here though is of course the fairly recent addition of the canopy better known as The Freemont Experience. It's a world famous, one of a kind entertainment venue in the heart of Las Vegas' downtown central core comprising of a 90 foot high, four block long electronic canopy that presents spectacular sight and sound shows. These shows rotate and there are quite a few so with carefull planning you could see most of them in a week but as I keep saying, A week isn't long enough to see all of Las Vegas' showcases.

Where would we be without Thomas Eddison?
