Fremont Street Experience by Blatherwick Next to "The Strip", Fremont Street is the best known street in Vegas. The Fremont Street Experience is a pedestrian mall that is covered by a barrel vault canopy, 90 feet high at the peak, that covers four blocks or approximately 1,500 feet. The underside of the canopy is covered with a display programmed to show periodic sound-and-light presentations after dark. Each show begins by turning off the lights on all of the buildings, including the casinos, under the canopy. Before each show, the streets that still cross the experience are blocked off for safety reasons. They play all sorts of tunes that include Vegas favorites such as Elvis or Frank. It's a pretty cool thing to witness. The initial display contained about 1.9 million lightbulbs controlled by 32 computers located in kiosks on the mall. The sound system, using speakers suspended over the mall was rated at 350,000 watts. Strobe lights were added at some point to provide additional entertainment options. Enhancements have increased the wattage to 550,000 watts in the sound system and an LED display controlled by 10 computers Leave a Comment Directions: The 301 and 302 buses run from Las Vegas Blvd to the Downtown Area, stopping at the southeast corner of the Fremont Street Experience.Website: www.vegasexperience.com

Fremont Street by toontown The Freemont Street Experience is a four block pedestrian promenade downtown. There is a very cool light and sound show in this enclosed overhead area, beginning at dusk through to midnight every night. Apparently it is the largest LED screen in the world, coupled with a huge audio system to create the effect. Vegas has a small walkable downtown area and it was a nice change from the vast Strip. Lots of casinos and old-fashioned neon everywhere. Leave a Comment

Where would we be without Thomas Eddison? by toontraveller The Freemont Street Experience is in my opinion one of the best attractions in Las Vegas. For one, it's free and surrounded by shops and restaurants that charge next to nothing but also because this is the best way to see Vegas as it was. Most of the original casinos remain here at downtown Las Vegas where as on the strip they will happily blow one spectacular hotel up to make way for another. The highlight here though is of course the fairly recent addition of the canopy better known as The Freemont Experience. It's a world famous, one of a kind entertainment venue in the heart of Las Vegas' downtown central core comprising of a 90 foot high, four block long electronic canopy that presents spectacular sight and sound shows. These shows rotate and there are quite a few so with carefull planning you could see most of them in a week but as I keep saying, A week isn't long enough to see all of Las Vegas' showcases. Leave a Comment Directions: Past the top of the strip or ask someone

Fremont Street Experience by LilBeachBum The Fremont Street Experience is a short ride away from the newer section of Las Vegas and The Strip. In this section of town, the shrimp cocktails are cheaper. The minimum beat on the tables at the casinos are cheaper. And there is music in the streets! There is music in the form of bands that play on stage on one end of Fremont Street as well as music and video that play overhead as you walk on Fremont Street.

The Fremont Experience by jltan The light show at the Fremont Street Experience is a must-see. You will watch in awe and wonder how they come up with it... Leave a Comment

by grannygilda This is another fantastic light show. The picture I have shown does not do it justice. It is just too hard to get it on a still shot. The canopy of lights above Freemont Street is amazing. The scenes change and are accompanied by music. It is another must see. My only advice is to take a cab if possible. We rode a city bus. It wasn't the most pleasant ride but was economical Leave a Comment
