This is the last of my Grand Canyon tips with more pictures as VT only allows up to 5 pictures max per tip.

There are several tour companies that do the Grand Canyon Tour like Grayline, Papillon, allvegas tours and more. But I picked the Showtime Tours. The Grand Canyon is a very colorful, steep-sided gorge, carved by the Colorado River in the U.S. state of Arizona. It is largely contained within the Grand Canyon National Park — one of the first national parks in the United States. President Theodore Roosevelt was a major proponent of conservation of the Grand Canyon area, and visited on numerous occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery. The canyon, created by the Colorado River over about 6 million years, is 277 miles (446 km) long, ranges in width from 4 to 18 miles (6.4 to 24 kilometers), and attains a depth of more than a mile (1.6 km).

The tour starts when Showtime tour bus pick you up the hotel and drops you off to their main depot for the different tours. Grand Canyon tour takes you to the South Rim in Tusayan, Arizona and takes a 5 hour road trip into Hoover Dam, Mojave Desert and Stops at Williams and Kingman Arizona and the tour will take 14 hours. A South Rim Tour Cost $160 including lunch.

Me at our picnic stop in the Canyon

If you're staying in Vegas and want to see the Grand Canyon but are stretched for time, I suggest doing a helicopter tour. It takes about an hour to fly there, during which you pass by some amazing scenery, such as the Hoover Dam (if you could call that scenery?!?) and the pilot tells you alot about the areas as you fly over them. Depending on which tour you take, you can either simply fly over the Canyon without stopping, or you can stop for a picnic in the Canyon (which is what we did). A wonderful picnic basket of goodies was supplied, which we enjoyed during our 45 minute stopover in the Canyon (plenty of time for photos).

If you choose the sunset tour like we did then the return journey is almost the best part, as the sun is setting right in front of you as you fly back to Vegas. The sky looks so beautiful from up there! By the time you get back to Vegas, night has fallen and the lights of Vegas are on show, so you will take a turn and fly down the strip over all the lights! Amazing!

Total tour time is approx 3 1/2 hours for the tour we did; cost approx $390 per person but it is an experience to last a lifetime!! And there are cheaper option available if you choose not to have the picnic and not go at sunset.

Maverick Helicopter Tours. Pricey but worth it.

Maverick Helicopters offer tours of the Grand Canyon. I chose to do the Wind Dancer tour as it is one of the cheaper options and therefore the most popular. I didnt book in advance deciding to wait until I arrived in Las Vegas hoping for a fine blue sky day. I was not disappointed.

Maverick pick you up from your hotel and take you to their base at McGarron Airport. After a safety briefing and a weight check you are introduced to your pilot and escorted to your helicopter which is very modern and state of the art.

Then the fun begins. Your helicopter, along with up to three others lifts off convoy style taking in Las Vegas sights before heading off towards Hoover Dam and the Canyon.

Your pilot provides an informative running commentary of all the places you pass. Lake Mead in particular is very pretty. Soon after the colours of the canyon begin to emerge and it is all just so breathtaking.

Your helicopter lands briefly on a ledge at the side of the canyon giving you a close up view of the Colorado river. Time for quick refreshments and photo opportunities before the return trip.

The helicopter takes an alternate route back to Las Vegas stopping to refuel.

This is not an economical way of seeing the canyon but as many people have only a short time to spend in Las Vegas it is certainly worth doing for the experience alone.

Maverick Helicopters is a very professional company. I felt completely safe in the capable hands of our experienced pilot.

I would point out that the seat you are given is based on the weight calculations. Ideally you would hope to get a front seat next to the pilot as this is the optimum place to sit and the best value for your money.

A flight over the city

We did take a plane to Grand canyon, and, for those coming irregularly to Las Vegas we strongly recommend that trip.

Even for those not wishing to go so far, a short flight over the city and Hoover dam is available, and the sight form the air is useful to see how "lost" in the desert is the city.

There are several companies; we choosed Scenic Airlines for its two overnight package, that allowed a memorable trip to Grand Canyon and Monument Valley.
