Hoover Dam. I don't have to say much about this site.

Hoover dam is the project that took Las Vegas by suprise.
When the South Italian and other Europeans started to build this Hoover Dam in 1940s
Great construction and it's about 30 miles when you are driving in from the state of Arizona.
    Great wrok of construction

Take a trip over to Hoover Dam and see this engineering marvel first hand. It is a short drive there from Las Vegas. We left Las Vegas en route to Flagstaff and went right over the dam. There are tours of the dam.
I could tell you how many million tons of cement went in to making the dam. That is just a number until you see it with your own eyes. It is huge! It looked like the pictures I had seen but the pictures did not show just how big it is. This picture is from the lake side.

Hoover Dam is worth a stop if you want to get away from the glitz of Las Vegas for awhile. Unfortunately, we were not able to take the tour they offer but it was kinda cool to get out of the car and look around a little.

I thought that Lake Mead was so pretty. When we stopped at the Hoover Dam and we were looking around I thought that the contrast between bright blue Lake Mead and the surrounding red rocks was magnificent!

The narrated boat cruise on Lake Mead offers a chance to learn about the lake and Hoover Dam. Be sure to wear sunblock.

My good friend Mario was kind enough to take our family for a waterskiing cruise on the lake. He got this close to Hoover Dam.

    The lake

Lake Mead, now a major recreation area, was formed by the building of Hoover Dam on the Colorado River. Lake Tahoe and the turquoise-colored Pyramid Lake are northeast.
