The Las Vegas Strip is universally considered the neon capital of the world. Despite a recent turn to more subdued signage, the classic signs of the Strip remain unique cultural icons. View the Dazzling Neon Signs of Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, MGM Grand, New York-New York, Monte Carlo, Bellagio, Aladdin, Paris Eiffel Tower, Caesar's Palace, Flamingo Hilton, Mirage, Treasure Island, Venetian, and Stratosphere Tower rising 1,149 feet into the air and a Lot MORE! plus you can view the Fremont Experience Neon Lights Show in Fremont Street at Las Vegas City Limits (most strip neon lights and hotel are located outside city limits in Paradise, Nevada)

Everyone should see Las Vegas at night from the top of the Stratosphere at the far north end of the Strip. It is truly a beautiful and incredible urban landscape.
I think the ride up on the high speed elevator (a trip in itself) costs about $8, but it is worth it. I also went up once in the daytime, which is also fun, but not as spectacular.
There is a revolving restaurant at the top which gets generally good reviews -- you need reservations I'm pretty sure.
There's also two rides at the top, a roller coaster most roller coaster people say is lame, and everyone's favorite, The Big Shot. Either one of them would scare me to death.
The time I was at the top of the Stratosphere at night there was also a lightning storm on the horizon -- quite a light show.

Leave your highheels behind and take a walk down the Strip, especially at night. It's 3.5 miles from end to end and from what we saw, there was so much traffic on the road, that we were making better time than the cabs or buses anyway! Plus you can enjoy the great neon art as you pass.

The newer mega-hotels seem to shy away from the gaudy glitzy neon signs of old, but their facades were tastefully illuminated and very beautiful at night too. Especially Paris and New York. The Bellagio Fountains are also lit for the evening performances.

See my travelogue for more photos of Las Vegas by night.

Vegas would not be Vegas if it were not for all the glamour and glitz! I did notice that many of the newer hotels and casinos are trying to take a more subdue approach to their lighting and I think it is due to the high cost of having to maintain so many lights and the sheer cost it takes to keep them lighted. Yet, there are some of the old glamour casino’s still out there. The old town area is a great place to see some of the old marquees. Yet, it is very fun to walk around to see the sights and sounds of the Vegas Strip. Nothing like a warm summer night to be able to stroll, sip a drink or two, and take it all in. Try to take some time and enjoy

This is just east of the Fremont Experience. This is part of the Neon Musuem, but this part is Free to public. Best times of course is at night, but be careful. It is outside of the safety of the Fremont Experience. If you want to see some of the most historical signs, you have to go to the boneyard and there is a fee.

The view of the Vegas Strip at night is one of the first things some tourists see. Its also an activity not to be missed. The lights, colors and effects from the various attractions outside the hotels is overwhelming, Unfortunately, my Vegas Strip at night photos did not come out very well, but this photo was taken in downtown where the flashing lights are not as modern or flashy as the Strip, but produce a modified version of the same images. The neon museum is a term used to refer to the neon signs found all around downtown.

What a thrill! Take it all in from street level at your own pace... stop in a casino and jam a few coins in a machine... make strangers into friends along the way... take a break at a sidewalk cafe or lounge... and do it all while carrying around your beer! You never know what to expect when you walk the Strip (except for those porn adverts).

Driving or walking, you can see the famous flashing and bright neon lights that will draw visitors and potential money spenders as each casinos try to outdo each other for attention.

The Cowboy is a classic. These lights are part of Las Vegas landmarks and character. Without those them, they are just buildings with lots of slot machines and card tables.

Whether you are going to gamble or not, enjoy the lights.
