We drove up and down the strip to see everything by car. It was a good way to at least get a glimpse of all the hotels, even if we didn't get a chance to go inside all of them. So many amazing hotels, there just wasn't enough time. We did manage to go into the Bellagio, which was elegant and by far my favorite, Bally's, the coolest thing here was the entranceway but it takes far too much time to get in with all those people movers, the Venetian-Disney version of Venice-a little weird, but nice,MGM Grand, one word-HUGE!, The Luxor, kitchy egyptian & the food was not so good at the buffet, Excalibur, a fun and silly Medieval Times theme, Monte Carlo which would be a very nice hotel if you didn't have the Bellagio to compare it to., New York, New York-really cartoonish version of the real thing and Mandalay Bay which has a nice island theme with lots of fishtanks.

    THE STRIP: THE STRIP.
  • Tip Rating:
  • Las Vegas Boulevard (The Strip) --------------------------------------------- I Guess Calling This A Must See Is A Little Obvious Seeing As You Cant Miss It But There Is No Where In The World Where There Is So Much To Do And See In Such A Small Area. The Strip Itself Is Approximately 3.5 Miles As The Crow Flie's From South To North,If You Assume It Starts At The Mandalay Bay Hotel And Ends At The Stratosphere Hotel. The First Time I Arrived In Vegas In 2003 I Got In About 2.00am And Though I Had Not Slept For Over 20 Hours Previously As Soon As I Checked In My Hotel And Unpacked I Was Walking Down The Strip,Open Mouthed Looking At The Neon Lit Themed Hotels,And Although I Had Seen Many Photograph's Of Them Back Home In The UK Until Your Actually Here Seeing Them For Yourself You Cant Help But Be Amazed At The Size And Splendor Of Some Of Them. I Can't Imagine For A Second There Is Anywhere More Spectacular Than The Strip After Dark. As You Walk Up And Down The Strip At Various Times Day And Night You Will See Many More Incredible Sights Such As Erupting Volcanos, Fountain Shows Set To Music, Pirate Battles, Mime Artists, Statues, Fountains, Live Music Being Played, More Limos Than You Have Ever Seen In Your Whole Life, People By The Thousands From All Over The World Often Drinking As They Walk, There Is The Never Ending Traffic And The Not So Nice Sight Of The Porn Peddlers Scattered Along The Strip Handing Out Their Filth To One And All But This Is Vagas And Anything And Everything Goes And Thats Why Its Such A Fantastic Place And Once Most People Have Been Here The First Time They Cant Wait To Return Again I Know I Could Not And Will Again I'm Sure.

THE STRIP: My guide to Casinos on the STRIP
  • Tip Rating:
  • "The Strip" is Las Vegas Boulevard. There are Twenty Eight casinos ON this boulevard -- and I have been in narly ALL of those ( I have not ben in the Stratosphere) plus more. NORTH STRIP: Circus - Circus. I do not like this casino. It is noisy. It was designed many years ago as a place for families. In the buffet I felt like I was in a giant food fight. But if you want to see a free circus this is your place. Riviera -- this is the FIRST casino I ever visited. It is still very "old-style." You can get a feel for the way Vegas was formerly just gambling and shows. The buffet was good a few years ago, the rooms usually are a bargain, and some of the shows are really good. This is NO LONGER a good location along the Strip. Westward Ho -- I just HAD to stop here. They have some very good prices and it is worth visiting once. Old time western theme. Stardust -- another throw-back to old LV. You will almost always find cheap rooms here. If you don't mind walking to the center of the Strip you might like this. Frontier -- another older casino. Clearly western themed. Again, you might find really cheap rooms. CENTER STRIP: Treasure Island - this one will be renovated and the pirate show has changed. This was a more modern destination for families and I like the buffet. With the monorail to the Mirage this was always a good location. Venetian - this is a MUST VISIT. Even if you've been to Venice it is still nice. There is a lot to see and the ceiling art work is a marvel. DO visit the shops! Mirage -- the second casino where I ever stayed and the reason I fell in love with Las Vegas. Beautiful lobby - a true paradice. This is a classy place. Harrah's -- From the people who bring you many riverboats this is a nice place. Catch the good free entertainment in a lounge. Casino Royale -- more like a fast-food restaurant this place is tucked away as one of the many small casinos in Vegas. I would skip it unless you want to say you have been in them all. more coming...

    THE STRIP: SOUTH STRIP
  • Tip Rating:
  • Boardwalk Casino -- now closed, was a Holiday Inn I stayed here a few times. The rooms were fine and cheap. But the casino was a yawn. Monte Carlo -- a fine place with the best value of a show in Vegas: Lance Burton. Go for the show, stay to visit the brewery! Oh, and the buffet is very nice, too. New York, New York -- if you are visiting theme casinos you'll want to see this one. It is very different and you do not get the feeling that you are in one big room as with many casinos. The Sports Book is particularly appealing here. MGM Grand -- the "big tuna" of casino hotels. I love the buffet and the atmosphere is very good. Yet it is a monster of a place. Good restaurants, nice shows -- the central lounge often has great entertainment. Tropicana -- don't ask me why I like this casino. I guess it reminds me of "old Las Vegas." You'll see older balding guys and the casino is actually small. Yet the tropical theme always draws me in. Sometimes the steel drum band or another lounge act is really fun. Excaliber -- to ME, kids and gambling don't really fit. So I tend not to spend much time here. It is loud and full of kids. But if you like Midieval Times you'll like this. Luxor -- DO NOT MISS THIS property! Home of the fabulous King Tut museum, the Blue Man Group show, and - hey - it is a pyramid! Mandaly Bay - home to the best pool in Vegas, the Shark Reef, and more. While I find the casino (one big room feeling) a bit boring there is too much you want to see here to pass it up.

THE STRIP: The Strip AKA Las Vegas Boulevard
  • Tip Rating:
  • One of the two "centers" of the city "The Strip" is a 3.5 miles (6 km) section of Las Vegas Boulevard. Here is where the cluster of "themed" hotels lies, including Luxor, New York New York, Treasure Island, Venetian, Paris and Bellagio. The views are best at night when the lights are on.

Las Vegas Boulevard, aka The Strip, is where the action is in Vegas. It's home to all the over-the-top hotels and casinos you've no doubt heard or read about: Luxor, Venetian, Bellagio, Paris . . . And it's worth seeing in both bright sunlight and the lurid, lively neon of the night. New York New York was my absolute favorite facade by day, but at night some of the other hotels stand out more -- like Paris and Excalibur (with its wand-zapping wizard). For sheer brightness, of course, nothing beats the Luxor, out of whose pyramid shines the brightest light on Earth.

THE STRIP: Take a drive up the strip ...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Driving "the strip" from the south end to the north can be frustrating if you are in a hurry, but absolutely fascinating if you are not. You'll pass through Las Vegas history from the new, New York, New York to the old, The Flamingo and many stops between. It's a "don't miss" way to get an overview without wearing yourself out!

THE STRIP: Coasters, Shows, Spa & Tussauds
  • Tip Rating:
  • The amusement park inside Circus Circus is a lot larger than I expected with a couple of large coasters that will get your adrenaline pumping. For the real thrill seekers though, you want the coasters on top of the Stratosphere. A couple of them dangle you over the edge of this over 1,000 foot tower and one of them zooms you around the edge. I personally love adrenaline, but since everyone else was too scared, I chickened out unfortunately. Are you brave enough? With so many shows to choose from, it's best to really look into this. Showtickets.com is your best bet when purchasing them and you definitely want to start booking weeks or months in advance depending on how well-known the show is. And check out if a singer, musician or magician is passing through since there are many shows that are not year-round. I went to a Cirque de Soleil show, Mystere, which is one of four of the Cirque shows. I wanted to go to "O", but even though I was booking 3 months in advance, the only seats left were in the nose-bleeds with partial views. I got great seats at Mystere and this two-hour show left me in complete amazement. It was funny, extremely entertaining and awe-inducing. I left there wanting to go back and see it again. There is an entertaining man before the show starts dressed like an extremely unkept usher; he will seat people in the wrong seats, throw popcorn at people while they are being seated, tear up their tickets (after they have been let in of course), and it's quite amusing. Be on your gaurd. I spent a couple of hours in Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum in the Venetian. It was fun to pretend that you're friends with the stars and some of the pictures actually look like the person was real. There is a Spa called Desert Wind Therapeutics a couple miles down from the Strip and it's not widely known, but the service and prices are great. The services are above and beyond what you would normally get at a spa, the prices are a good value and they are exceptionally friendly.
