Make sure you know where you are going in your taxi and ask at the start of your journey how much the driver expects the fare to be. We were caught out going to the outlet shops - ended up paying a fortune for a taxi when we could have got a free bus, but thought we were just going a 5 min journey down the road - needless to say the driver never told us any different. You live and learn.
Up the highway from Red Rock Canyon is this Old West themed town. We were there on a weekday in September and most of the shops etc were closed. There was a mildly amusing mock drama and hanging and a pretty lame zoo. Skip it or take the kids on the weekend..
If you have the time and the courage to say NO, then do it. You will get a free meal and show and sometimes a free stay at a hotel.
Unique Suggestions: Make sure they do not intimidate you to the point of buying into the time share, Remember You can say NOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Watch out; on two trips to LV, when returning to the airport, and tendering a $20 dollar bill for a less than $10 fare, the cab driver had just driven off, without proffering change, leaving us feeling stunned and cheated. Its only a small thing I know, but does colour one's view of the place.
Unique Suggestions: tender exact fare (plus tip of your choice), for cab fares
I think each bar in hotels makes up their own prices for drinks .
you would think it would be one price per hotel or even bar .
so just put 25c in a slot and get a free drink of the waitress and tip her then you decide how much your drink will be.
I know some people with disagree, but I have to call this one a tourist trap. For one thing, $16 is overpriced for the few aquariums and exhibits they have here. Also, I've been scuba diving and I've been to Seaworld several times so there was nothing here I hadn't seen before. Maybe that affected my opinion of Shark Reef. After all, the fact that they put this place up in a hotel is impressive.
But I'm still calling it touristy, The again, I really liked the wax museum so take my advice as you see fit. I put some pictures in a travelogue so see for yourself and decide whether you think its worth it.
Unique Suggestions: Check out the numerous fish, jellyfish and sharks in each section and listen to the audio provided at the entrance. They do provide some limited information on the types of marine life and their environments.
Fun Alternatives: I'd head to the wax museum, but that's just me. Or I'd suggest getting $16.00 in quarters and playing video poker. Hey, this is Vegas, There are tons of ways to spend $16. How about another all you can eat buffet?
In some of the hotels, especially the New York, New York, there are booths set up where the workers snag passers by and offer them free tickets to a show or $50 in free slot credits for attending an "informational seminar". What this really is is a bus ride out to some condo sub-division where they spend 3 hours trying to get you to buy one. If you are duped into accepting the tickets or credits they require that you give them $20 in cash that you can get back when you show up for the "seminar". That way if you don't show up you are out $20. What they don't tell you right away is that if you change your mind before it's time for your seminar you can just go and ask for your $20 back. That's what we did once we figured out the scheme.
