We were picked up early in the morning at our hotel - Tropicana hotel in Las Vegas - and delivered to the Airport. Flight from Boulder Airport to the Grand Canyon.
Tour began with a flight over Lake Mead and Hoover Dam before flying to the South Rim. (The Hoover Dam on Colorado River creates Lake Mead at the border of Nevada-Arizona.
Length 379 m, height 221 m.)
From Grand Canyon Airport motorcoach tour with more stops at South Rim. The Grand Canyon, one of the wonders of the world, has been created by Colorado River cutting through rock for two billion years. The canyon is 446 km long, from 6 to 24 kilometers wide and more than a mile deep.
Late afternoon back to Las Vegas.
Duration cca. 8 hours including more than 2 hours flight. Price was about $200,- pro Person. Everything was allright.
If you can avoid Con Air, the more conventional way to arrive in Las Vegas is at McCarran International Airport. It is one of the busiest airports in the world, handling more passengers every year than San Francisco, Singapore or Tokyo. And if you are desperate to gamble, there are slot machines in the arrivals hall.
Nicolas Cage flew to Las Vegas on Con Air, together with a planeload of killers and rapists, including John Malkovich and Steve Buscemi at their most evil and psychotic. The 1997 movie was a big success and offered plenty of blood and action, culminating in a crash landing along the Strip in Las Vegas. Old Cliffie has seen the film a couple of times. And he has always driven to Las Vegas.
there is no public transportation to and from mcarran airport. you have two options, take a private shuttle or a taxi. if staying on the south strip, ie the area around the MGM it is best to take a taxi. if you are staying in the central or north strip or downtown a shuttle will be considerably cheaper. the only problem with a shuttle is that they may make several stops and takes more time than a taxi. if you are in a hurry to get to the airport a taxi will your best option.
The C gates of Mc Carran Airport serve Aloha and Southwest airlines and are connected to the main terminal by either a long hallway with moving sidewalks or a TRAM, depending on which gates you are using. Here's a hint: If you are flying in or out from gates C 23-27, skip the tram and use the moving sidewalks. It's faster and you won't have to walk as far. All the other gates should use the tram.

One of the reasons I contemplated not leaving the airport was tales of 2 hour security lines, I suppose I could have played my injury card and called for a wheelchair had that happened but it turned out security was only about 10 minutes when I went through on a Tuesday, I think Sunday is probably the worst day of the week with all the weekend visitors heading home.
I had a connecting flight, arriving into D and leaving from C, in order to move between the two terminals without having to check back through security, check with the TSA personnel BEFORE leaving the secured area and they might let you through, they didn't check to see if I had a boarding pass or even an itinerary which I thought a bit odd, why not just open it up then?
Southwest Airlines is an American low-fare airline based in Dallas, Texas. It is the largest airline in the United States by number of passengers carried domestically for any one year and the second largest airline in the world by number of passengers carried. It also maintains the fourth-largest fleet of aircraft among all of the world's commercial airlines.
Since there is no Southwest Airline service in San Francisco Airport, I travel to Oakland Airport to Ride it (although southwest will be available in san francisco in sept. 2007!). It cost $173 internet rate and $321 fully refundable rate ( for round trip oakland-las vegas ticket).

Just a few miles south of the strip, Las Vegas airport is a convenient gateway to the city. However, if you are transferring here, this might be a big pain in the butt. I flew into Terminal A on US Airways with a transferring flight on United. The departure monitors in Terminal A do not even show the United flights, so I had to wander around for 20 minutes just to try and figure out which gate my flight would leave from. After wandering Terminals A & B and seeing nothing, I realized I had to head toward Terminals C & D, and out of the secure area, to find monitors and get to these terminals. Turns out my flight departed from Terminal D, so back through a different security point to Terminal D. I don't know about you, but for me the security checkpoint where they strip you down and search your carry-on items is the worst part of flying (especially when you have to deal with a bag of liquids, a laptop, jacket, shoes, a bag, and everything in your pockets)... The last thing I want to do is repeat the wonderful security experience.
Probably the coolest thing in the Vegas airport is the slot machines throughout the terminal.
I was very surprised to discover Las Vegas Airport was the 10th busiest airport in the world with about 44 million passengers in 2005.
There are many nonstop flights from Chicago to Las Vegas. If you are flying on United you will probably see this dinosaur exhibit from the Field Museum in concourse B.
The best flights west are on sunny days in a window seat -- we're over the Rockies here -- and only an hour from FUN!!!
We flew Southwest from Ontario, California to Las Vegas. Flight time just 45 minutes. When you arrive at the airport there is a little train that will bring you to the Baggage Claim.
Just outside of the baggage claim area is where all the limo's park that you can hire and I believe airport shuttles too. We used a Sedan from "Bell Trans" to go from the airport to Luxor hotel - price $5 per person.
Be patient while waiting for your bags at the Las Vegas Airport. It is an incredibly busy place. I think there may be about 12 or more baggage carousels, all of them surrounded by hordes of expectant travelers waiting for their bags to plop out of the conveyer. I think we waited at least about 45 minutes which to us seemed interminably long. I guess there might be ways around it like getting one of the Red Caps to fetch your bags, but I haven't a clue how to do that. I'm from out of town, you know.
Anyway once we did get our two bags we ventured out to the curb to try to figure out how the taxi rank worked. That is another adventure.
Vegas deals are easy to come by if you are patient. Look on this website, I have seen tons of deal posting for cheap flights, some packaged with a hotel stay even. The casinos make their money by you coming there, so as long as the get you there, you can even comp your flight if you are a regular player. Just check into everything before you pay a 100% cost ticket.
There is one thing almost gauranteed about the early flight back from Vegas though: everyone will be hungover or asleep the entire way, especially those long East Coast flights!
The shuttle from the airport to the strip is $5.00, but you have to wait up to 10 minutes before the shuttle leaves and you may need to shuttle around for up to an hour while if there are many passengers, each going to a different hotel.
The taxi's are not that more expensive. $12.00 to the airport from the Strip at Flamingo. I even shared the ride and it cost on $6.00.
