Adult Advertising, Las Vegas
There are lots of people (men and women) who stand all along the strip handing out cards and papers advertising strippers etc. They are very forward, in that it doesn't matter if you are a family group, they will still push these cards into the males hand. They make a noise by rattling the papers and therefore get your attention. This happens at all times of day. It's very distasteful
Don't be surprised if you are walking down the strip and you literally see people lined up, handing out flyers. These "flyers" 95% of the time, are ads for strip clubs or private strippers. I Only warn you because when I went to Vegas, some guy had the nerve to hand one to my 10 year old brother!
Just ignore them as you walk by (or not if you are interested- lol )
If you should happen to find yourself walking around the strip between hotels, you will no doubt be beseiged by people trying to give you brochures of pamphlets containing adult material. All you have to do is ignore them. The most they will do is stick it out in front of you, just shake your head or ignore it. I know people get annoyed by it, but those people doing the passing out are just doing it for the money, don't get mad at them. They're pretty easy to ignore and you'll get used to it. Its just one of the downsides of Vegas, there's enough upsides to overshadow that.
There are any number of people lining the street handing out brochures for escorts, adult shows and anything else they can sell you. Its an inconvenience but is easily avoided. Try a technique I like to call "walking like a New Yorker": walk fast (if you can) and look straight ahead. Most of these people won't bother you. They generally accost the people who pause and look over at them. If they still try to hand you something, just say "no thanks" and keep walking. They don't seem to bother those who appear totally disinterested.
One of the first things you will notice about Las Vegas is not the cool hotels or pretty neon lights but those darn porn pamphlet pushers.
You hear the sound of the guy/girl slapping a stack of papers in their hand and then the paper is held out for you to take.
One thing I did notice is that if it was just me and the my female friends we didn't really them bothering us ... but if we were walking with a group that had men, there was slapping-a-plenty. I guess they figure most the female population is not interested.
If you want to see naked women, don't ask the taxi drivers to bring you to a good place; you'll get screwed! They receive kickbacks from certain places. If you feel you have to ask then make sure you specify a drinking establishment. I was suckered into paying fifty dollars to enter a club with fat women that only sold soda and juice! The best places I found were Treasures and Crazy Horse Too. I'm sure there are more good joints but I didn't have much time to explore.
If you have children traveling with you or are sensitive to pornography...BE WARNED. The outside walkways swarm with people who snap their lil' pornographic flyers to gain attention and try to pass 'em to walker-bys.
This will surely arouse a young'un's curiousity...be prepared to be asked. These flyers get strewn about the ground too...they'll be sure to catch glimpse. Prepare 'em!!
FYI - When evening falls, canvassers roam along The Strip. These are people who pass out cards and brochures for strip clubs and other adult entertainment & services.
It's your choice - you can take what they give you OR you can keep on walking and ignore them. They are not aggressive at all - although the sounds of handout cards flicking tend to get annoying.
If you hear clapping or the sound of someone slapping a stack of papers against their hand, DON'T look at them, or you will find your hands being crammed full of pornographic ads for escort services and strip clubs! If you ignore them, they will not bother you, but if you acknowlegde them whatsoever, expect a handful of smut!
Many Las Vegans have fought to have this type of solicitation banned, but to no avail thus far...
I have heard many reports of lots of pornography in Vegas, but I have found that it is no different than any major city. There is one thing that I would like to point out. When you are walking along the strip, there are many people who hand out porno flyers for escort services and 900 numbers. Those handing out the flyers are predominately Mexican. These people get really annoying, because they are always shoving their flyers right in front of you to where you are practically walking right into it. What really gets me is that they do this in front of my wife and baby. If they hold it out for me to grab, I take it from them and throw it down immediately. A lot of these small little leaflets are on fences, in cigarette ashtrays, on the ground, on newspaper stands, etc. etc. etc. Just ignore them and if you are into that kind of stuff, read 1 Corinthians 6:18 & 1 Thessalonians 4:3.
From old alcoholics in red suits to people flicking hooker baseball cards - beware of the street vendors. Anything free or 2 for one being offered in between the hotels can only mean a rip off.
Can't tell you how many offers for a free meal or helicopter ride or whatever were given to us - all if you buy this or pay for something else at a huge price.
Just be wary of buying anything from a non-reputable dealer.
Saw lots of ladies of the night in town Nascar weekend - beware guys that can't be good.
Don't be lured in to the "free" topless titty joints like Glitter Gulch on Fremont street. The basically pour you two $7 beers when you walk in the door whether you want them or not. I guess if you're REALLY thirsty and are REALLY in need of peeking at some of Las Vegas' finest third-string, day-shift saggy bodies, then by all means knock your socks off...
there are these creepy people that hand out prostitute brochures on the strip, some of them are very pushy! just don't make eye contact and keep walking. the mayor has done a good job eleminating these creeps, but they have the constitution on their side....
We saw very few Police along the strip in Vegas, and we saw no trouble at all. As with any other city avoid the dark off the track places.
All along the strip, especially at night, there are annoying people trying to give you cards or magazines advertising the various sex services available. They are not too pushy but avoiding them is a pain, and the litter they create spoils the look of the place.
Besides liberation of gambling, the state of Nevada also has freedom of prositution. This itself does not have to lead as people who choose to make use of these services will no doubt find the way to them. However, the fact that annoying salespeople stuff your hands with leaflets of beautiful scarsely dressed girls, is appaling. It's even more shocking if it happens when you're walking hand in hand with your girl! Not the system is wrong here, the way that it is abused is wrong. Commerce is the real failure.
