When walking up or down the strip you will be pestered by people trying to hand you details of adult & strip clubs. They don't seem to take into account the fact that you might be a family with kids.
The best thing to do is to ignore them or If you pick up any leaflets that you come across in your travels and hand these to them first it seems to confuse them.
From old alcoholics in red suits to people flicking hooker baseball cards - beware of the street vendors. Anything free or 2 for one being offered in between the hotels can only mean a rip off.
Can't tell you how many offers for a free meal or helicopter ride or whatever were given to us - all if you buy this or pay for something else at a huge price.
Just be wary of buying anything from a non-reputable dealer.
Saw lots of ladies of the night in town Nascar weekend - beware guys that can't be good.
there are these creepy people that hand out prostitute brochures on the strip, some of them are very pushy! just don't make eye contact and keep walking. the mayor has done a good job eleminating these creeps, but they have the constitution on their side....
The temperatures drop to comfortable levels at night and many people choose to walk outside between the hotels. However, marketers have also figured out that this is popular and have sent out adult advertisers in droves.
The advertisers are harmless but if you are traveling with children, I wouldn't recommend going between the hotels by walking at night if you don't want to expose your children to nearly naked advertisements for escort services.
The advertisers will normally just try to pass off their flyers to people that are walking by but you will also see them tossed on top of newspaper boxes and often carelessly littering the ground. In a one block walk you probably will encounter about 5-6 different advertisers trying to pass off their flyers.
This is actually a comment in response to many of the statements I have seen concerning the people passing out porn pamphlets/cards on the Strip and elsewhere.
1. No one is forcing you to take them
2. You are in Las Vegas, not Branson or Disneyworld
3. The people passing out the flyers are not to blame. They are (mostly) illegal immigrants who are paid cash under the table for what they are doing. I actually saw that one person who posted a comment pushed one of these people. That is uncalled for and if it had been me you had pushed, I would have brought you up on assault charges.
4. Lighten up. If you let those kind of things "anger or offend" you, then you need to check yourself and your own issues. No one is forcing you to take the flyers, go to strip clubs, or whatever.
You remember that sound when you put a bread clip on your bike and it made that noise - a ticking kind of noise? Or when you had some cards and you fan them and push them through your fingers making a flicking sound?
Don't Look When You Hear That Sound!!!!!
It's how they get your attention. Men and sometimes women flick the cards so you will look at them and then they hand you Adult entertainment cards. They push them on you. Then people drop them, littering the streets.
When strolling the strip don't be surprised to see vans with advertising on for 'HOT BABES' with a photo of a scantily clad lady on them as well as people who stand on the street tapping cards in their hands and offering them to you. The cards are of naked ladies offering their services. Just ignore these people, they are harmless, but beware the cards litter the street which is annoying.
When walking up or down the strip you will no doubt run in to these people. They are everywhere. They have flyers of adult entertainment or shows They will put these things directly in front of your face. Most of these people are Hispanic, they hang on every corner. Don't grab any of them, just keep walking and enjoy the sites. I don't think they can touch you, but they get pretty close.
I've come to find most of the advertisers in front of the Imperial Palace handing out nude photos of the hookers in Vegas. Shield the virgin eyes if you happen to travel with your children. Be careful who you talk to and who you come into contact with while out and about. Keep your wallet safe as well as your drinks.
Besides liberation of gambling, the state of Nevada also has freedom of prositution. This itself does not have to lead as people who choose to make use of these services will no doubt find the way to them. However, the fact that annoying salespeople stuff your hands with leaflets of beautiful scarsely dressed girls, is appaling. It's even more shocking if it happens when you're walking hand in hand with your girl! Not the system is wrong here, the way that it is abused is wrong. Commerce is the real failure.
I have heard many reports of lots of pornography in Vegas, but I have found that it is no different than any major city. There is one thing that I would like to point out. When you are walking along the strip, there are many people who hand out porno flyers for escort services and 900 numbers. Those handing out the flyers are predominately Mexican. These people get really annoying, because they are always shoving their flyers right in front of you to where you are practically walking right into it. What really gets me is that they do this in front of my wife and baby. If they hold it out for me to grab, I take it from them and throw it down immediately. A lot of these small little leaflets are on fences, in cigarette ashtrays, on the ground, on newspaper stands, etc. etc. etc. Just ignore them and if you are into that kind of stuff, read 1 Corinthians 6:18 & 1 Thessalonians 4:3.
Every 20 to 30 feet along the Strip you will encounter folks trying to hand you what look like playing cards. What is actually on both sides of the card is a photo of a topless and/or scantily-clad young woman with a phone number and the slogan "Girls to Your Door in 15 Minutes".
This is an unfortunate and unavoidable aspect of Vegas. These guys are impossible to avoid, they are on every block, there are hundreds of them along the sidewalks. Another unfortunate downside to these guys is that the sidewalk for the entire length of the Strip is absolutely littered with these discarded cards, they're everywhere.
I tore a strip off of one guy, when he tried thrusting a card in my 15 year old son's face. Suddenly, (of course!) he couldn't speak English...
Your best strategy for avoiding these guys is to not even look at them, don't slow down, and don't accept what they're trying to hand you. The Vegas police do keep these guys on a very short rope, so if you have any problem with them whatsoever, don't hesitate to call the police.
FYI - When evening falls, canvassers roam along The Strip. These are people who pass out cards and brochures for strip clubs and other adult entertainment & services.
It's your choice - you can take what they give you OR you can keep on walking and ignore them. They are not aggressive at all - although the sounds of handout cards flicking tend to get annoying.
Las Vegas is a great place for couples and singles alike. But be warned, if you get offended by pornography, prostitution, etc. then stay away from Vegas,. Also, this isin't the best place for children either. Not only because of the adult theme, but also because they won't find much to do, concidering the majority of the activities are 18 or 21+. Also, don't venture off the strip, lots of gang activity there.
We saw very few Police along the strip in Vegas, and we saw no trouble at all. As with any other city avoid the dark off the track places.
All along the strip, especially at night, there are annoying people trying to give you cards or magazines advertising the various sex services available. They are not too pushy but avoiding them is a pain, and the litter they create spoils the look of the place.
