Traffic / Taxis / Pedestrians, Las Vegas
§ If the taxi driver from the airport tells you he’s going to take the tunnel because of the traffic, tell him “NO”. This is a trick they play on tourists to make it more expensive. There are all kinds of back streets that run parallel to the strip that are faster. I noticed when we were there last that the cabbies are getting desperate. Things have slowed down since 9/11 and they are really getting pushy. This was a drastic change from our last visit. I think they knew they would lots of customers and didn’t worry about milking it. This time they actually had a guy complain about his tip. Another tried the tunnel routine.
PLEASE be careful crossing the streets! Don't rely on the person in front of you or the
traffic light or even the Walk-Don't Walk signs. Let your EYES be the judge. Though
most people are having fun there, the drivers are NOT !
JAYWALKING/FAVORITES OF BIKE PATROL/WALK SIGN WILL FLASH/BY THE TIME YOU GET TO MEDIAN/STOP APPEARS ON OTHER LIGHT AND YOU ARE IN THE MEDIAN/CARS GOING BY ON BOTH SIDES SO YOU JAYWALK/ENTER BIKE PATROL$60BKS/OR 10DAYS IN JAIL!!!!!!!!
The traffic is terrible, so I recommend going by foot, or using the monorails. Try to avoid the people who hand out porn. I think they are more prominent than anything! The bus system works well, but sometimes the traffic is SO bad that you could have gotten to your destination FASTER if you had walked!
With all of the shows and attractions of Las Vegas, it is no suprise that the traffic in the area of the strip can be quite congested around the strip. Here is what it looks like around sunset.
