Every spring there is a River Run that attracts thousands of motorcycle aficionados to the Laughlin area. Now most bikers are law-abiding citizens; many motorcycle clubs claim, with some justification, that they are victims of police sensationalism and media hype. But late one night last April (2002) there was a firefight on the casino floor at Harrah's Laughlin, allegedly involving the Hell's Angels and Mongols motorcycle clubs, that left several bikers and a couple of tourists with bullet holes in them. Another biker was found shot to death along I-40 that weekend. By day, a biker event is a great place to look at bikes and buy T-shirts and other souvenirs. Late at night, you would be well advised to avoid gatherings of rowdy or drunken people.

The free bus service that connects the hotels along the river is no longer running.
The water taxis are running again but be carefull as there are two companies operating now and they do not honor each others tickets. If you buy a roundtrip ticket on one line make sure you use that line to return or it will cost you another $3.
The cost for the water taxi is $3 one way and $4 round trip.

Summertime Heat can be dangerous and stifling and can reach up to 120/F, 48/C. This is the first time I visited in the winter, the weather was perfect, high of 65/F, 18/C & sunny, evenings dipped to the low 40's/F, 4.4/C.
Gas up! ahead of time if you are driving and make sure your car is in good working condition. There are very long, lonely stretches of highway with no service stations. Highway 40 is well traveled by truckers though and is patrolled by the California Highway Patrol. Watch your speed!
