    Kyle Canyon

by goingsolo Updated Dec 10, 2004
    Mount Charleston

Unless you're visiting just for the skiing, Kyle Canyon will probably occupy most, if not all, of your visit. This is the most popular area within the Spring Mountain Resort boundary. Kyle Canyon is where the Mount Charleston Hotel and Lodge can be found, as well as several residential areas. Most of the most popular trails begin in Kyle Canyon as well.

    Lee Canyon

by goingsolo Updated Dec 10, 2004
    Mount Charleston

Lee Canyon is the home of the Las Vegas ski and snowboard resort, which runs approximately from Thanksgiving to Easter. Lee Canyon can be reached directed from highway 95 or by the Lee Canyon Road, which connects with Kyle Canyon Road.

This road provides some great views of Mount Charleston and some nice spots to stop and admire the view. This area is less popular than Kyle Canyon and its a good place to go and leave the crowds behind. There are some hiking trails out here as well, but they are less developed than those found near Kyle Canyon.

    Charleston Peak

by goingsolo Updated Dec 9, 2004
    Mount Charleston

Mount Charleston is just under 12,000 feet and is one of the tallest mountains in Nevada. There are two hiking trails that lead to the peak. Both are all day hikes with elevation gains of over 4,000 feet. It is recommended to do this hike in the summer or early fall due to snow levels. In November, it wasn't even conceivable, at least for me.

I didn't get a chance to take in the view from the summit, but I did get to admire Mount Charleston while driving along the scenic byways.

You are here for the beauty and the ability to breathe fresh air and hear silence. It's an easy trip from Las Vegas for a bit of a change.
