Driving around Mount Charleston
Three separate highways lead to the mountain. Kyle Canyon Road (highway 157) passes the Mount Charleston Hotel and Echo Canyon, Lee Canyon Road (highway 156) and Deer Creek Road (highway 158) both offer stunning views and are provide access to numerous trails, including Fletcher Peak and Mummy Mountain.
Driving through the canyons of the Mount Charleston area can be exhilarating on a perfect blue sky day, especially post-snowstorm when a rush of cold air tingles your skin as you cruise past mountain vistas. But the canyon roads are narrow and curvy and some folks may be more interested in the scenery in their periphery than the vehicle coming in the opposite direction. Take care driving on these roads, especially around curves. Also, if you want to take in the view, make sure to stop the car first and pull over.
