    • Having grown up in Tahoe, I will attest to the fact that it is a wonderful place to go hiking, biking etc.

    There are countless trails down in the Reno valley, but for the good scenery, head up to the lake.

    I will recommend any of those below, but please view any of my other pages for the Lake's towns for more details:

    Tahoe Rim Trail - completely circumnavigates the Lake basin.
    Mount Rose - go the top of Mt Rose, path starts near summit of NV-431 on the way to Incline Village.
    Desolation Wilderness - a complete national part adjacent to Emerald Bay on the south west corner of Tahoe.

    Summers can can be quite warm (possibly hot) in Reno. Comfortable in the lake. Nights can be cool, so bring a jumper. Snow is possible, but typically does not happen until Halloween time. Due to hot sun, bring plenty of water on the trails.

    At Virginia Lake there is a trail around the lake used by walkers, runners, parents stolling with their children, or people sitting and watching the birds.

    On one end of the lake there is an exercise area, one of those fitness courses.

  • Directions: Virginia Lake is a few blocks west of South Virginia Avenue; as leaving downtown Reno turn left on Plumb Avenue, and then left again on Lakeside and you'll find the lake.

    Many people travel to Reno/Tahoe for the winter sports. But for those of us who live here, we had a real, honest to goodness winter in early 2005. This snow stuck around for months.
