Boomtown Exterior by thecatsmeow Boomtown is actually a destination in its own right but as you can catch a shuttle from downtown Reno I thought I would include it here and in Verdi. This little "Western Town" is a truckstop/hotel/casino all in one. Set up like a small western town you get the feeling you are out west in the early days. Inside the Casino seems to stretch out forever from room to room. There is a indoor family fun center with rides and games for the kids and some good restaurants also. Its worth a visit just to see the cute set up. Classic Cars by thecatsmeow Hot August Nights is a great time to visit the Reno/Sparks area. If you love oldies music and classic cars this is the place to be at the beginning of August. Usually held the first week of August. There are sock hops, prom night, street concerts, cruises, show and shines, and more. Leave a Comment Address: Reno/Sparks areaDirections: As there are several locations where activities are happening your best bet is to go to the official website and see whats happening and where.Website: www.hotaugustnights.net

Acrobats by thecatsmeow Circus Circus has many talented circus performers each day. I always try to stop by just to check it out when I am visiting Reno. Some of these performers travel great distances and are truely fascinating to watch. These girls were peforming some great acrobatics while balencing these little balls on a string. They would pass them off to one another while flipping and rolling around. Very good show. Very nice restroom by thecatsmeow Everyone kept talking about this bathroom inside the casino part of the resort so of course I had to use it. :) I understand they renovated it for a million $. I admit it is a very nice place to get the job done! Leave a Comment

Silver Bells wedding chapel by thecatsmeow As stated in my intro Reno is well known for its marriages and unfortunately divorce. There is no waiting period what so ever and in as little as 1 half hour you can be legally married. There are little chapels scattered about Reno this one just happens to be right on Virginia Street about a block from the Circus Circus Casino. The requirments for marriage are as follows: A male and female person, at least 18 years of age, not nearer of kin than second cousin or cousins of the half blood, and not having a husband or wife living, may be joined in marriage. Proof of age is required. Both parties must appear in person at the Marriage License Bureau, Washoe county Courthouse, 75 Court Street, Reno, Nevada. To be legally married, a marriage ceremony must be performed by any person authorized to perform marriages in the State of Nevada. The options are: wedding chapels, churches or the Commissioner of civil Marriages. One witness to the marriage ceremony is required by law. So folks with no blood test required hop on over to Reno with your beloved! Leave a Comment

scenic outskirts by thecatsmeow If you have a car when you go to Reno be sure to take in the sights. Just outside the city is some beautiful scenery. Be sure and have a camera with you at all times. The picture here is taken from a gas station on our way into the mountains. The Sierra Nevada's are beautiful to behold. Leave a Comment Address: Outside of the city in any direction

North of Town by mcpangie The casinoes in Reno are lit up in different colors. The two white towers in the foreground belong to Circus Circus, both towers have long streams of white lights down the side of the building. The building with green floodlights is the Silver Legacy (their hotel). The sphere is on top the Silver Legacy's main casino. In that sphere they have the capability of putting on laser light shows, but don't. The El Dorado is outlined with pink neon. In the middle in the background (with no "building lights") are the two towers owned by Harrah's. This image was taken from just across the I-80 in an old graveyard long since retired, using the chainlink fence as a makeshift tripod. Apparently there are plans to move the graves and use the land for a parking lot for the University of Reno. When the cemetery was started in the late 1800's, this hill was on the edge of town. Fitzgerald's & Reno Sign by mcpangie I haven't been to Las Vegas since I was 21, and I have to admit that Virginia Street isn't nearly so bright and bold as the Las Vegas Strip, but that doesn't mean the lights aren't fascinating. One of my favorite things about Reno is that from the distance all the casinoes in Reno are lit up in a rainbow of colors in the early evening hours (i.e. the Silver Legacy is green from the distance). And, if you want to explore the inside of the casinoes there are plenty. Leave a Comment Directions: Walk up and down Sierra and Virginia Streets to see the downtown casinoes at night.

One of the many classic trucks at this event by TheTravelSlut, 4 more photos Hot August Nights is an annual event in Reno that features a return to the 1950's and 1960's with music, cars and activities. The event is usually sold out almost a year in advance as there are over 5,000 registered classic cars and almost as many unregistered old cars and trucks. Cruising the main drags, burn-offs, show & shines and classic car auctions dominate the car aspect of the event and old bands like the Beach Boys, Motown groups and the like put on concerts nightly. This is a great family event in a great location and setting. by SLLiew We drove eastward from Reno on I-80 eastward, then veer into a desert road to reach this State Park driving on dusty off roads. Perched on a hill top is a giant fossil of aIchthyosaur, a marine fish-like reptile, of the Pangea era 220 million years ago. There is a park ranger who will give a short guided tour. Berlin is an old mining town. A relaxing getaway from Reno to get away from the slots and tables for awhile.
