In all my travels, this has consistently been my favorite fudge shop. They make it right there in front of you, with only a small glass partition keeping you from taking it right off the slab.
They have other sweets, chocolates and goodies, but the fudge is divine!!
Favorite Dish: Any of the 60+ fudge flavors they have on display. Usually rotating ~20 flavors on any given day.
On our day trip to Viginia City, we stopped for
lunch at the Palace Restaurant and Saloon on
According to local newspapers of the 1870s,
residents were crazy about their oysters, but ....
they're no longer on the menu.
Favorite Dish: "Buffalo Burgers" ....
Never had them, but we wanted to try something different, and we
found them to be delicious. Served on a roll with lettuce, tomato
and fries ..... a must to try if your in Virginia City
(see picture of them)
Dance halls and saloons such as this one were a welcome haven to the
hardy breed of miners who labored day and night and were often discouraged.
But, when they did find gold, and later, vast amounts of silver, they headed for
town to tell of their successes. They shared their good fortune with the dance
hall girls and courtesans who appeared almost miraculously shortly after any
report of a big strike. Many fortunes were attained in one day, only to be lost that
same night over a poker table. The women, who were readily available whenever
lucky miners came to town, took a fair share of the wealth in return for their favors.
I have to say that I never actually visited Solid Muldoon's. I was handed a coupon somewhere along my route, which offered a 10% reduction on meals. They advertised 'Hamburger and Fries' for just $3.50, which seemed good value. Other food was available also.
