M.S. Dixie II is a 570-passenger and the largest cruising vessel on Lake Tahoe. We were all excited to take the cruise and were not dissapointed. The weather was cool, but we dressed accordingly and just enjoyed the beautiful lake. Our host was Darin Talbot, "The voice of Lake Tahoe" was educational with so many wonderful facts and stories. He is a local who loves to entertain and you know he loves this area. One wonderful thing it is a flat bottom boat which makes the ride smooth. They do have a bar for snacks or drinks and have a inside area where they have the dinner cruises. They show a video during the cruise inside the cabin area. The basic cruise is 2.5 hours and cruises completely across the lake to Emerald Bay, the Lake's most photographed spot.

Nevada Beach Campground, which offers shaded picnic area complete with picnic tables and barbeques not far from a boat launch. The campground is nicely shaded, plus sufficient area for RV’s. A grocery store was just down the street along with some restaurants. A Catholic church was right next door to the resort which gave the place a sense of serenity. Plus, a Firestation is just down the road for emergency purposes.

Zephyr Cove Resort Marina is a very lively community with a mile of sandy beaches, which offers a shaded picnic areas complete with picnic tables and barbeques just down from another boat launch. The campground and RV park is right across the street and a traffic signal is placed here to help those cross safely to the marina activities and the restaurant. This area caters to the touristy part of the lake, since this is where the M.S. Dixie Paddleboat launches for the wonderful lake cruise, which was fantastic by the way, and this is where you can charter for parasailing, sport-fish, jet skis, paddle boats and anything motorized for rent. The sandy beach here offers a beach bar and sand volleyball. Among other activities, visitors can also horseback ride.%c

When in Lake Tahoe, if you're into hiking you should check out Mt. Tallac. It's a pretty long hike but it's all worth it when you get to the top. Definitly take a lunch and plan on eating with a view. The chipmunks at the top are the fattest I've ever seen from all the people that feed them. You can see the cross in the mountain with snow still in it. Sometimes it stays almost all summer.

There are a ton of restaurants in South Lake Tahoe. It all depends on what type of food you like. For up-class, expensive dinning, Edgewood Country Club is really good and right on the lake. All the casinos have nice restaurants too. For a good, more inexpensive meal, definitly go to Lakeside Inn. The dinner there is open 24 hours and will always satisfy. With deals like 7.99 prime rib and the 2.99 breakfast special, it's awsome for budget travel or a late night meal.

This is where you can charter for parasailing, sport-fish, jet skis, paddle boats and anything motorized for rent. That day it was a little cool and some scattered showers so not too many people were renting, but there were a few that were suiting up to rent a couple of jet skiis.

The row of paddleboats looked like ducks and there were a couple of baby ducks waddling around them.

Favorite thing: A Catholic church was right next door to the resort which gave the place a sense of serenity. It has some very lovely statues and beautiful glass stained windows.

Favorite thing: Seeing a wedding happening first hand and seeing how beautiful it must be to have a gorgeous lake framing the background like a portrait or picture perfect postcard. It would be wonderful and I can see why so many do get marry here. Just about all resorts offer some sort of wedding package. Yet, the view from the Zephyr Cove is spectacular!

Go to the beach, go water...

Favorite thing: Go to the beach, go water skiing on Lake Tahoe, and drink on the beach. You're allowed to drink on the beach in Nevada (unlike the California side of Tahoe).

Fondest memory: I was drunk half the time I lived there, but it is like living in a postcard. Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!
