Conway Things to Do

  • Conway Scenic Railroad

This was recommended to me by the receptionist at The Golden Gables Inn where I was staying. There is a choice of journeys and I opted for the shortest - the Valley Train - which took around an hour. I paid the extra $6 to travel first class in the beautifully restored Gertrude Emma Pullman carriage. The longer journey takes approximately an hour...

  • Hiking the Swift River Valley

Along the Kancamagus Highway there are many opportunities to stop and hike along a variety of trails. The one that I chose to hike was the relatively short Swift Valley Trail. This is a trail that is well maintained and suitable for beginners. The trail takes you down to the river which makes for some beautiful scenery.

  • Drive the Kancamagus Highway

The Kancamagus Highway is a 34.5 mile scenic drive along NH's Rt. 112 in Northern New Hampshire that is well known as one of the best Fall Foliage viewing areas. The town of a Conway is at one end and the town of Lincoln at the other end. I had missed the vibrant colours of the fall but even so, I found the scenery to be spectacular all along the...

  • Glen Ellis Falls

These are beautiful falls that are situated just off the main road. The falls are a short walk from the car park (parking costs $3) along a well maintained path. You park on one side of the road and then follow a path that leads to a tunnel that goes under the road as the falls are on the opposite side to the car park. When I was there it was quiet...

Conway Restaurants

  • Good Indian Food

I fancied something different and so visited here. There is plenty of variety especially for a vegetarian. Service was friendly and efficient and they were prepared to spice up the food to suit my taste. I chose vegetable samosas as a starter and chana masala with naan bread as my main course. The food was freshly prepared and importantly for me...

  • Decent Mexican Food

Called in here when I arrived in a Conway mainly because it was midweek and late and this place was still open. The staff were pleasant and welcoming and service was fairly quick. The menu was extensive and as a vegetarian, there was plenty of choice for me. In the end I settled for one of their combinations - chile relleno, cheese enchilada, rice...

Horsefeathers is one of the more popular nightlife spots in North Conway. They have live music every weekend and often during the week during the summer. This is a 2-level restaurant/bar - the 1st floor has a restaurant and a bar. THe second floor is a bar with the live music. Every Friday night, they have a duo playing there doing a lot of Irish music. They are GREAT!! They are funny, interact a lot with the audience, and have a huge repetoire of music that they play -- they are so talented.

Dress Code: None for the bar upstairs. People were in all range of dress. I think the restaurant is a little more formal, but not overly so.

I was amazed at how many outlet stores that are here in North Conway - over 100. There is something for everyone with many of the well known stores here and some really good bargains to be had if you are prepared to be patient and look. There are plenty of restaurants and coffee shops also. I found the LL Bean and Columbia stores to be particularly...

    North Conway Village

What they call the ' Strip'.It is the main drag through Conway where all the Outlet Centers are.

Unique Suggestions: tout 16 is under Construction. It is being enlarged to a multi-roadway. New pipes and side-walks are being built. It takes patience to get in and out of the bussinesses along the way.

Fun Alternatives: If all possible take one of the two parallel side raods. On one side, starting at Wal-Mart , is the North South By-pass road. It brings you at the farthest end of North Conway. The other road, West Side Road, starts at Conway Village, by the Library, next to Washington Street and runs parallel to Eastern Slope Playhouse in North Conway.

Just behind the fence is a steep ledge where rock-climbers try to conquer the rocks. The mountains are breath-taking. From here you can see the White Mountains. The town of Conway lays below. In the distance you can see ski-slopes they are very busy in the winter.
