The rapids here are amazing. The river almost sucked Sarah into it's depths. Actually it tried to eat Chris as well. There was an adorable little crazy man who stood on the rocks above the river and was watching us. No but it was really fun. The water was quite clean and refreshing.

    KEENE, NH, AND THE JUMANJI

by heitzenrater Written Jan 21, 2005
    JUMANJI

The movie jumanji was filmed in the small town of keene, nh. there is still evidence of the film. this painting on the wall was painted and shown in the movie.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation has named Keene to its list of "America's Dozen Distinctive Destinations" due to the city's well-managed growth, commitment to historic preservation, attractive architecture, cultural diversity, activities for families with children, economic base of locally-owned small businesses, and walkability for residents and visitors.

Once in the town it's not hard to find this spot. the town is small and you could walk around it in like 30minutes. it has a great small town feel to it.

    Pumpkin Festival

The Pumpkin Festival is Keene's biggest annual event. It takes place in late October, and has grown every year since it was first held in 1991.

The central aim of the festival is to assemble the largest possible number of carved (and lit) pumpkins, thereby setting a world record. The 2003 festival set a brand-new record of 28,952 carved, lit pumpkins. The pumpkins are arrayed on racks and towers all along Keene's Main Street, and have every conceivable design and slogan. Some of the carving skills are genuinely breathtaking, and when the pumpkins are lit up at night they look spectacular.

There are also all kinds of food stalls and crafts on sale, and many events throughout the day, from kids' costume parades, to seed-spitting contests, to musical performances. Something like 50,000 people come to Keene for the day, and it's a really fun outing, great for both pumpkin and people-watching.

The only drawback - 50,000 people is a lot for a such a small town! The streets get extremely crowded and finding a place to eat dinner can be next to impossible.
