Favorite thing: The recent Manchester renaissance has brought a flood of comparisons and media attention. Many pundits to the South seize on the bricked sidewalks, rising rents, and numerous pubs as an indication that Manchester is becoming "Little Boston". The title is groundless. These two cities have very little in common, save geography. Manchester was a "Company Town" to the very core of the definition. Boston was and is an economic, cultural powerhouse that prospered on its wonderful natural harbor. The industries, populations, and economic bases of the two cities are entirely different, and a visitor to Manchester would surely be perplexed by the comparisons.
Fondest memory: Manchester is unique in New England - the core of the city was planned, designed, and constructed under the watch of one company: The Amoskeag Manufacturing Company. The uniformity of construction and form dazzles pupils of urban planning, and pre-dates the works of Le Corbusier by a half-century. Consider this when visiting the city.

Q: I've been wondering this for thirty years now: How do you pronounce "Amoskeag"? Thanks DNW

A: AM-uh-skaig. Accent the syllables like 'platypus' or 'pantomime'.
