Manchester owns a few unique properties within her borders. One - a ski area - is tucked into the side of a hill surrounded by swirling residential streets. The other, is Derryfield Country Club. The golf links are a premier hangout during the summer months but become a raucous sled/ski hill during the long Winter. Being city-owned, sledding the links is not only popular but LEGAL. The hill is wide, hard-packed and fast. You'll be surrounded by all ages, a few snowboarders and more than a few dogs running up and down after their owners. It's a blast!

The "HippoPress" is Manchester's alternative weekly. It's youthful, hip, and playful. It has also successfully challenged "The Union Leader" for media control(The Union Leader is an infamous newspaper, known for arch-conservative views and bias). The Hippo is also great for nightlife and restaurant guidance.

Manchester is a great place to start a leef peeping journy. The locals call out of staters who come to enjoy the autum foliage " Leef Peepers"! New England is famous for it's fall scenery, and since Manchester in in southern NH, it is the last final frontier, before traveling to the scenic north country (White Mountains).

Locals seem aloof and cold, but if you just engage individuals for a moment, cut them some slack...well they're "wicked" friendly.
Residents reflect the regional dry humor by referring to sedate Manchester as "ManchVegas". Similarly, the interstate between Concord, NH and Burlington, VT is nicknamed "The Vermontabahn" - even by local papers - for the high-speed driving. But, note: out-of-state plates are pulled-over ten times more often. Why would the police upset local tax-payers?

The Fall is celebrated while the leaves change color and the frost is on the pumpkins. Many decorate their front yards & porchs for Halloween and Thanksgiving before Winter sets in. Please don't smash the Jack'o Lanterns or pumpkins sitting by the front doors. They are out there for viewing and to put a smile on your face, if they don't scare you! This one is a record breaker and can be found at the Garden Center in Manchester. The pictures were taken by my friends, Sam & Patsy Sargent. Thanks for sending them!
