If you are heading to New England, you may want to consider flying into Manchester's airport versus Logan in Boston. The Manchester Airport is smaller, newer, and has much less congestion than you will find at Logan. I've flown into both and if I were going to New Hampshire or North Central Mass, I would take Manchester over Logan just to skip the Boston traffic. Leave a Comment

Bus accident at South Station, Boston by gilescorey (First off, don't be frightened by the pic...I arrived at that scene years ago in Boston and thought it was wild. Nobody was hurt). Bus Service between Manchester and points South is cheap, clean, and efficient. Concord Trailways runs hourly+ during peak hours, connecting Concord, Manchester and Boston(including Logan). From Boston, express buses run you to NYC in four hours, with free film included - but only on Peter Pan. Avoid the ghetto Greyhound. Service North of Concord is more sporadic, and East/West travel is non-existent. Still, oftentimes, I will fly into Boston, and bus to Manchester, rather than deal with traffic or forcing my relatives to do the same. Furthermore, I preferred the bus over plane and train when travelling between NYC and NH for six years - that's an endorsement. Having lived in NYC for many years, I found Manchester taxi services to be outrageously expensive. I took a cab from downtown to the Bedford line, at Second St....and it was thirteen dollars. There are no alternatives, really. Local buses are near non-existent. But, I was aggravated. Most hotels offer complimentary transportation. Ask for it. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Manchester often offers flights in and out as an alternative to flying into Boston. If you are planning to enjoy more of the surrounding New Hampshire area its worth considering. Theme: Car/Motor Home

by biljah The main street which runs through downtown manchester. It is said to be the longest dead end street, be it New Hampshire folk lore or not. Elm street is supposed to be the only Main street in america, that ends in a dead end, again wives tale or not it's a fun tid bit of info. I believe that the tree in the pic is an old elm tree. "The Millyard Girl" Statue, tribute to the worker by gilescorey A visitor cannot fully-appreciate the importance of Manchester's past without a stroll through the Millyard and the adjacent residential streets. The Amoskeag Manufacturing Company. employed, at one point, 17,000 workers, many of whom lived in housing built by the company. The now-elegant row houses that run uphill to the downtown financial district(Elm St.) are fine examples of how this corporation ruled every aspect of worker-life. A stroll from the riverfront/Arms Park, through the Millyard, across Canal, up Merrimack St., across City Hall Plaza and up tony Hanover is a charming experience. Leave a Comment Address: Start at Arms Park, Arms Park Drive.Directions: Off Commercial St., next to Stark Mill. Commercial runs parallel to Canal St.

by biljah I grew up fishing here at the falls. There are Bass at the bottum of the falls, and the salmon try to swim up the falls but cannot. Manchester has since built a fish observatory which allows the fish to bypass the falls and swim upstream to hatch their eggs. The observatory has different levels and goes aroud the falls to the side, which has thick glass windows where you can actually see all kinds of fish. Leave a Comment

YMCA by biljah This historical building is still in Manchester today. I used to go to The Young Mens Christian Association, or better known as The Y, or YMCA. I grew up going here as a kid. I also shool Bill Clintons hand while he was the presidential canidate in the early 90's. He came up to me and said " I'm Bill Clinton tell your parents about me". I was so excited sure enough I went and told my parents, I was about 12 then. Little did I know where hid hands had been, I might not have been so excited to have shook his hand! Leave a Comment

The Currier Museum has an impressive collection for a institution of it's size; however, it is the Zimmerman House that puts the feather in its cap, so to speak. The North End home is a fascinating example of Wright's attempt to meld the habitats of man and nature. A guided tour excited me for days afterwards. Highly recommended. by biljah Commercial street has renovated the factories and filled them with, cafes, resteraunts, universites, clubs, pubs, bars, lofts, apartments, gyms, businesses, and museums. It's a bit of old world style with new world commerce at Manchester's Commercial street. Leave a Comment
