The New England Sampler: Local crafts and reasonable prices
The Sampler is a quiet little shop just off Elm St. The store is simple and straightforward - almost dull - but the most desireable of local wares are carried, and priced right.
What to buy: The usual suspects are available: maple syrup, pancake mix, postcards, and the like. However, I found hard-to-come-by Salmon Falls napkin rings for my sister and my Mom's favorite jams, to boot(Stone Kitchen). Whereas other shops are laced with foreign-made crafts designed to look "rural", the Sampler carries the real deal.
What to pay: Cheap compared to most.
Mall of New Hampshire: Tax free...but hiked prices!
On our tour of New England we would be driving through New Hampshire, and as we had heard the state was a sales-tax-free one, we thought it might be a good place to get some video games we had been thinking about.
We went to the Mall of New Hampshire, which was a nice mall. But we noticed that many of the prices were high compared to out-of-state shops, apparently to compensate for the sales tax or something.
Also, be aware that there is still sales tax on any 'service' such as food court meals.
