 Atlantic City Trumps World

The Trump World's Fair Casino Hotel was closed in October 1999. The World's Fair was reported to be awkwardly designed, with an expensive lease for walkway access and difficult to reach for customers. The 22 story property had been a $13 million drag on earnings for Trump Hotel and Casino Resorts, Inc. Mr. Trump had bought the property for $63 million in 1989 and had invested another $48 million in 1996.
The company is designing a new $750 million, 4,000 room casino to replace it. If they decide to go ahead with the new property, it will encompass three city blocks and have a 200,000 square foot casino. As of October 1999, it is still in the planning stages. Leave a Comment

Downbeach:
There are no connections between the Hilton and the Tropicana.
Midtown:
Trump Plaza connects to a small satellite casino that it also operates.
Caesars, Wild Wild West, Bally’s and Clardige all connect to each other.
A moving walkway connects from the Boardwalk to the Claridge and the Sands.
Note that you can get to the Sands from the Claridge, but not back again on the second level.
Uptown:
Resorts, Trump Taj Mahal and Showboat all connect to each other. Leave a Comment

Trump Marina by penumbra
Between Trump Marina and Harrah’s : take the elevator in Trump Marina’s parking garage to the main floor, follow the painted pedestrian lines to a sidewalk and follow the sidewalk in a gentle curve along the waterfront to Harrah’s main entrance. Some foot traffic along the path (10-15 minutes).
Between Harrah’s and Borgata : take the exit by the poker room in Harrah’s, turn left and follow the walkway through Harrah’s employee parking lot, and continue curving along the waterfront until you arrive a Borgata’s bus entrance. Quite beautiful along the route with several signs illustrating points of interest but eerie in that there was absolutely no other foot traffic (15-20 minutes).
Between Borgata and Trump Marina : don’t try it. There’s no provision for pedestrians directly between these two casinos… no exits, no sidewalks, no crossing over / under route 87. Leave a Comment

Head south to Strathmere for a very secluded beach. The best time to go is in the eary morning for the sunrise. Bring your fishing gear, there will be many fishermen along the beach.

Marine Mammal Stranding Center located in Brigantine, NJ on Brigantine Boulevard near the lighthouse. Take the Brigantine Bridge between Harrah's and Trump Castle and center will be on your left. The center is a non-profit rescue center that rescues, rehabilitates and release whales, seals, dolphins and turtles found on the NJ coastline. You might not expect to find stranded mammals in NJ but there were 118 stranded in 2001. We visited in July 2002 and got to see a 6 week old harbor seal. Talk about cute. Looked like a hairless version of my kitty (fat body, small head & big eyes). According to the volunteer, the center had already rescued 85 harbor seals since Jan. 2002. This seal was found stranded on a local beach. He was 2 weeks old and malnourished. Since being at the center, he had gained 50 lbs and was almost ready to be driven up to Massachusetts and released into a colony of harbor seals established there. Neat stuff. Leave a Comment

Brigantine Beach-it's a beautiful, long empty beach right next door to Atlantic City. Much, much nicer than AC. Leave a Comment

Spend an hour or two at Gardner's Basin in AC. This open space is often host to music and food festivals and when teh circus is in town, visit the animals who are temporarily lodged here and are frighteningly accesible to onlookers.
Gardner's Basin is at the northern end of AC, along the water and is also home to a small but cute aquarium and museum. Leave a Comment
