Beach Haven Restaurants

This amazing restaurant/bed and breakfast (formerly The Green Gables) has just recently been renovated and re-furbished. Its motto as they say is "Upscale, not Uptight" and they most certainly live up to their saying. They offer seating both inside and out (Porch and Garden). They serve Breakfast, Lunch, High tea, and Dinner. Breakfast and lunch are more casual and in the evening they serve from both a Five Course Prix Fix menu and an a la carte (both change daily). Out of all the restaurants I have eaten in on the island, this one by far has the best food for all three meals. Their wait staff are extremely knowledgeable in what they are serving and can guage your meal for your pace. This is also a BYOB establishment, but do hold a special permit to sell an assortment of Valenzano wines (a local NJ winery).

I hope you enjoy this fine dining experiance as much as i did!

This is a little seafood bar. You can sit at the bar and eat the delicious seafood treats. I've had the steamers, the muscles, the fried clams... and I can't wait to go back for more! A great low key local seafood clam bar.

Favorite Dish: the clam strips, steamers, muscles... I've loved everything I've had.

The Chegg is the best local low key food place. You can wander in there anytime of the day or night (open 24hours) but beware of the late night after bar crowd. The food is 'comfort food' style. The fries are amazing!

You can order take out too if you don't feel like waiting for a table.

Favorite Dish: Uhm... everything is really yummy!

Beach Haven Nightlife

Sunday nights from 5-7 is happy hour at The Ketch. Their signature secret ingredients drink is the "bushwacker". It's frozen and yummy like a mudslide with 10x the 'kick'. It gets really crowded but I don't mind the crowds when I'm there with my girls. Be warned- the bushwackers go down easy but they hit really hard. Be sure to pace yourself!!

other nights the Ketch has live music. Mostly, the scene at the ketch is sunday nights for happy hour. they have a restaraunt too but I haven't been there.

Dress Code: Casual... right off the beach is fine although they might require shoes and a shirt.

I'm not sure if the restaraunt is more upscale attire. I haven't eaten there. Only been there for Bushwackers on Sunday nights and the occasional other nights to see bands.

once you're in Beach Haven or on LBI in general, there is a real lack of public transportation. If you're staying in Beach Haven you can pretty much bike or walk whereever you'd like to go. If you're staying in one of the quieter towns you will have to drive if you want to go to Fantasy Island or the water park or Bay Village. Some of the bars have a shuttle bus but they're not too reliable.

You can bring your own bike or rent one.

Beach Haven Shopping

Wonderful shop located on Schooner's Wharf (a couple of dozen shops and restaurants are located here in a fishing village atmosphere). Huge selection of Fresh Produce Sportswear, Wallaroo sunprotective hats, Crocs, Jibbitz, beach bags, purses and other apparel you'll want for going out on LBI. Excellent service, friendly help, and they ship!

The one downside to LBI in general is that there can be these evil biting flies on the beach. they are huge and their bites KILL! they aren't always around, and there are less the closer you are to the water. So make sure that you pack bug spray to keep them away.

Favorite thing: I love to put my chair down by the water. Sit there with the waves crashing at my feet and the sun beating down. Pure Heaven!

Fondest memory: I usually go with my girlfriends and that's my favorite thing. We rarely see each other these days so our week 'down the shore' is when we catch up!

    Pure Heaven!
