    VISIT THE OLD FIRE HOUSE

by VeronicaG Updated Jul 31, 2009

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The old firehouse holds a vintage firetruck and interesting items related to Cape May's history. As you investigate this historic structure, browse through the old photos and fire equipment. Our grandkids always love dropping by this site!

There is no charge to tour this historic firehouse. The doors are almost always open for a look-see and it is rarely crowded.

This snazzy vintage firetruck was originally meant for Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania but due to unforeseen circumstances ended up at Cape May.

    Cape May

Anytime you go to a beach town, what do you do?

    Go to the beach!

Well, if that was your one plan for Cape May, now is the time to re-strategize.

Cape May has block upon block of uninterrupted Victorian homes(and being as it rained most of my week, we saw a LOT of them). Any visitor should take the time to walk the town, particularly north of the Washington Street Mall, for a trip back in time.

You'll find yourself buzzed by many foot powered vehicles, but I think walking is the best way to get a sustained view of the architecture.

A lovely pedestrian shopping mall with numerous shops to cater to every taste. There are also a number of eating establishments for when you get tired of shopping. It emcopasses three blocks on Washington St.

    Historic Shopping Area

Downtown Cape May is full of restaurants, boutiques, galleries, and craft shops all housed in quaint old buildings amidst tree lined alleys. Between all these activities, Cape May is a great vacation spot. You can walk around and look at all the victorian mansions, go to the beach, walk on the board walk, or shop and eat in the downtown area.

Christmas Time! The city is beautiful and romantic during the holiday season. There are lights everywhere and the B&B's are all lit up. You can get tours of some B&B's and drink hot cider. Take a carriage ride!!!

    Cape May streets

It reminds you of a little colonial town, takes you away for a moment (to a different time & place)....
I enjoyed wandering the streets, stopping by in little shops and cafes.
