OK this photo of Chris is staged, but it carries a genuine warning. The pavements around Cape May are very cracked and uneven in places, and at night especially it would be all too easy to trip and fall. You’ll want to look around you at the lovely houses you pass on the street but do remember to keep one eye on where you are going and watch your step.
In this town it's no joke
This is a very picky town so it's not a good idea to make a lot of noise or start trouble. It's kinda like playing with a wasp, if you don't bother them they may not bother you, but if you do bother them then it's all over so behave yourself. They come on bikes, cars and walking so you never know when they may be near.

Book your accommodations ahead of time
Cape May is a expensive tourist destination. Due to the price of accommodations at Cape May, I either had to stay in Atlantic City (also expensive) or Wildwood for the Labor Day weekend. Weekend accommodations tend to be much more expensive than the weekdays. Please plan ahead.
Giant Mystery Spiders Taking over Jersey!!
If you decide to dine at the Sunset Beach Grill(and, I hear the crabcakes are FABU!) then I suggest that while waiting in line, you NOT look at the garden area.
There were these gigantic, exotic spiders just hanging out like they owned the whole g*ddamned beach shack! It was freaky.
Size? Okay, I know I'm a giant by comparison, but if this spider and say, my hand, got in a fight, the spider might just win. For realz.

Driving after drinking
Be very careful if you have to drive to a bar when you go out at night, especially the places on Beach Drive - namely Carney's and Cabana's. There's no problem with the people in these places - it's the cops standing on the boardwalk across the street watching who looks drunk and gets into a car.
On weekends in the summer, there can be as many as 3 cruisers and 2 bike cops with nothing much else to do but stop drunk drivers.
So walk or get a designated driver. You can probably get free sodas if you tell the bartenders.
Apart from enjoying a quiet...
Apart from enjoying a quiet read on the wraparound porch of your Victorian palace of choice, strolling the beach or sunning on it, eating, shopping (and antiquing), and taking in a movie, there is not a whole lot to do in Cape May. Maybe that's the point!
The DANGEROUSLY drinkable...
The DANGEROUSLY drinkable Farmhouse Summer Ale is available at the Raw Bar behind The Lobster House. WARNING: this setting, that beer, you’ll have a hard time leaving.
