The Lighthouse Challenge!
Favorite thing: Once a year there is a weekend adventure called the NJ Lighthouse Challenge. The challenge is to visit all of New Jersey's eleven lighthouses in just 2 days. All of the lighthouses are open to the public on these days. Some of them usually are not, so it's a great chance to see the interior of a lighthouse that on a regular day you could not.
Each site had it's own special souvenier card. When you collect all 11, you can present your collection at any lighthouse to receive a special "11 points of light" commemorative card.
Maryland also has a similiar lighthouse challenge. If you complete BOTH challenges, you will recieve an additional special souvenier.
This year the challenge is being held on October 16th & 17th
Check out the website for more details including directions to all of the lighthouses.

Walk the nature trail on Sandy...
Favorite thing: Walk the nature trail on Sandy Hook. Stop by the Sandy Hook Visitors Center first for a map and the nature trail begins on the left-side of the parking lot. Well-marked trail with observation spots for bird-watching (only bird I can recognize is a pigeon), the trail meanders through natural vegetation, cacti (no idea how that got there) and along the beach.
Fondest memory: Sitting on the outdoor deck of the Sea Gulls Nest, sipping a cold beer and watching the waves. The Sea Gulls Nest is a bar located right by the beach in Area D of Sandy Hook. Live music during the summer and just a nice place to hang out.
