The best ways to get to Hoboken from Manhattan are the PATH train, the bus from Port Authority bus station, or the ferry from the Finanacial District or the World Trade Center. All let you off at the old Lakawanna train station. From there it is an easy walk around the center of the town. If you take the ferry you will also have a really pretty view of the Manhattan skyline.

    Path Trains

The best way to get to Hoboken from the city is the Path trains. You can take them from 34th, 23rd, 14th, 9th and Christopher on 6th avenue and also from the World Trade Center.

It will leave you about enough the end of Washington and 1st.

Fares are $1.50 and you can usually use a pay per ride metro card or a path ticket.

    PATH train station in Hoboken

You can get to Hoboken via the PATH train from Newark or NYC. It's very easy and much better than driving in! The PATH runs every few minutes, and service is slower on the weekends.

The easist way back and forth...

The easist way back and forth between Hoboken and Manhattan is by train (the PATH - $1.50 per way - with one line going between 33rd street right near Penn Station, and stopping intermittantly down the western side of Manhattan - and another line between Hoboken and the World Trade Center, which also goes along to Newark).

There is also a ferry (NY Waterway - $2 per way) that leaves from the western edge of the World Financial Center and goes to the Hoboken PATH station. The ferry is much nicer than the PATH, and generally takes less than 10 minutes.

NY cabbies may or may not take you to NJ, depending on the time and the driver. If you opt to try to get a cab, keep in mind you are crossing a state line and it won't be cheap - but negotiate a price anyway (you shouldn't pay more than $25).
