Italian Ices
If you're Italian or a lover of Italian things, you obviously know what a granita is. When Italians imigrated to the US, especially the Northeast, they brought their traditional foods and culture. These foods have been Americanized over the last century or so, sometimes to the extent that a real Italian would not recognize the item. Granitas are one of these objects. In South Jersey and Philly, they are called water ices but in North Jersey, they are italian ices. Basically, cremated ice,sugar and hopefully, fresh fruit. Many of the commercial italian ices are made with artificial flavors and corn syrup and aren't worth the money they charge for them. A true italian ice is those 3 ingredients.
