  • which ones were they....

Which presidents were the ones to which Seven Presidents Park was dedicated? It doesn't matter! The place is still a great refuge for hot and sticky tourist in the summer. We used to get on the beach for nothing back in the 60's but now they charge $5 a day (must be to pay for the lifeguards). The expanse of beach is huge and most of it is really...

Take a stroll around the landscaped campus. Walk into the majestic hall and see the ceiling of Wilson Hall. Grab some food-to-go in the cafeteria and have a picnic lunch on the side lawn. Get out your camera and shoot some pics of the fine architecture of the admin buildings and the Science Center. Go into the Art Gallery and see some of the fine...

Pier Village not only contains smart shopping and popular restaurants, but boardwalk with beach, as well. This boardwalk is not cluttered with tacky souvenir shops, but it does take you along the ocean! This was also the site for recent charitable events such as a Pier Village 5k race, which drew proceeds to benefit Habitat for Humanity, a charity...

The Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is a "chain style" sweet shop specializing in all sorts of chocolate goodies, they also carry a nice selection of ice cream as well as those delicious caramel and other flavored coated apples. We had just finished walking off our dinner and decided to pop in here to see what they had. I decided I wanted the...

  • Old world style 50's diner

We arrived at Long Branch in the early evening after checking into our hotel from a few hours of driving. This particular restaurant was not too crowded and we wanted something quick and yummy to eat. The restaurant is decorated in the 50's diner style with orange booths and neon decorations. We were tempted to seat out doors, but it was starting...

The complex at Pier Village is relatively new to the Long Branch area. They have taken a section that used to be a fishing pier and break-wall and a bar and a parking lot and turned it into a yuppie place. There are places of business at the street level and up-scale condos and apartments above.

The shoppes (spelling is in the yuppie tradition) include names like: The Stone Hut (jewelry); Space Interiors (furniture); Nirvana or Jenna & Molly (clothing); Paws and Pose (pet stuff and pictures). There are several food courts and restaurants: Stewarts for sandwiches and fries; Its Greek To Me for Greek deli; Ceriello for meats and cheeses; Avenue beach Club for fine dining and entertainment; Carmellas for specialty desserts.

And to draw the crowds (and entertain the yuppie tenants), they have special events like clothing shows and evening concerts and sales tents which they put up in the central square when weather permits. Seasonally they also have live theater, concerts, farmers markets, arts and crafts exhibits, food festivals, ice skating and horse-drawn carriages rides.

It is a very nice place to stop in and see what's happenin'.
