Shoobies (don't go home!)
I've got to honest, even though tourists are the driving force behind Ocean City's economy, most Ocean City folk just don't like tourists. Ocean City is sort of a retirement town and is very very quiet until the tourists arrive. I guess a lot of folks resent the influx of people on their territory (but this is pretty common everywhere, isn't?) Anyway, in south Jersey we call out of state shore tourists 'shoobies'; so if someone calls you this, chances are, they aren't being nice. Thankfully, most of the people who work at the tourist attractions and the boardwalk, are seasonal help also from out of town-- so you should expect to be treated courteously. Interestingly, you will meet a lot of people from Europe at shore points all along the jersey coast. They come to work at the shore for the summer and are always very nice and fun to talk to! Anyway, my point is, just be mindful that there are a few ignorant residents who will just look for a reason to give you a hard time, but all in all, Ocean City is a very pleasant, family oriented vacation spot.
Make sure you leave a tip at places you eat on the boardwalk, even if you don't sit down-- the help are being paid less than minimum wage and will really appreciate it!

Don't be too cheap
I don't think I have sensed a Jersey shore town with more local pride than Ocean City. To be a courteous visitor, I suggest doing two things:
1. Just buy your beach tags (don't try evading the beach patrol by running in the water) and
2. Please pick up after yourself on the beach
Yep. It's that easy.
Parking is free off-season,...
Parking is free off-season, before Memorial Day and after Labor Day. If you are heading into Ocean City from Route 52, you will be heading down 9th Avenue to the Boardwalk where municipal parking is $8. Instead, make the right onto Ocean Avenue. Head down about 3 blocks and you will find all-day parking for $5 at one lot and next door for $4.
