The Chatterbox has been in Ocean City for over 65 years- it's a family restaurant that is an "instution". It's typical American fare-- nothing exciting, but reliably good, inexpensive and family friendly. The restaurant has that retro-50's guache pink and neon vibe. What makes it really interesting are all the retro pictures from the 20's 30's and 40's from around Ocean City.
Favorite Dish: Famous for their burgers and ice-cream.
Rojo's Jersey Mex Cafe is so amazing. The food is just, awesome. I got a teriyaki chicken soft taco with chips and a pinapple salsa. It was awesome. I can not wait to order from them again. And rojo (red) the owner is so laid back and down to earth!
Favorite Dish: teriyaki chicken soft taco with chips and a pinapple salsa
Sack O' Subs is a great place to get subs. Don't ask for a "hoagie" Its a sub. Anyways, they have a wicked awesome cheesesteak w lettuce tomatoes and fried onions, but no one does tuna like they do. Ask for it dry with oil and you will be extremely happy. Or have a regular tuna which is creamy and oh so delicious!
Favorite Dish: cheesesteak w lettuce tomatoes and fried onions
Mack & Manco's is an ocean city gem. I have been going there since I was a little girl. We would always stop and get their pizza, even if we had to walk the whole boardwalk, because nothing else would satisfy us the way Mack & Manco's would! Awesome pizza.
Favorite Dish: P I Z Z A
I found this little treasure one day while I was at work. Wow is the food amazing. I ordered an Italian Sub. They didn't make 6 inch ones , so I got a 12 inch and saved half for later . Man , was that the best Italian Sub I have ever eaten ! It tasted so fresh , and healthy ! I also got some cookies and they were amazing too . I brought them into work and everyone loved them ! They also gave me a free bag of chips . The people were so friendly and nice . I am so going back !!!!
**update : Ive gone back about 5 times since. There food is always so amazing! I am so glad I found this place!
Favorite Dish: The Italian Sub and the Cookies
Apart from being really famous nationally for having outstanding crabcakes and seafood, the atmosphere is fun and playful. The menu is really reasonably priced and quality is not sacrificed. Ike's has been so successful they have several locations in addition to mail order crabcakes.
Favorite Dish: That would be the crabcakes, duh, which although they are not lump, are incredible! Try them with the mild but zingy horshradish sauce.
A sampling of other menu items include:
Fried softshell crab for $9.95
Grilled cajun jumbo shrimp $9.95
Grilled Yellowfin tuna wrap $6.95
Crunchy fried grouper $6.95
Grilled tuna or swordfish steak $7.95
Famous local Port Norris fried oysters $6.95
Katina's is a small restaurant across the street from the Chatterbox and I've been going there since I was very small. It's the most amazing Greek food you'll have outside of one of those big Greek festivals they have at Orthodox churches sometimes.
Favorite Dish: Order the falafel, gyro, or chicken kabob platter, and you can't go wrong. Everything on their menu is made with the freshest ingredients: delicious perfectly ripe tomatoes, diced and sweetened onions, fresh lettuce, and great meats. The platters also come with a bit of greek salad, grape leaves, a spinach pie, a heaping portion of fresh tatziki sauce, and a freshly baked and toasted piece of pita bread. You won't go home hungry but you should take a little piece of baklava home for yourself later. Platter are all around the $11 mark, making this a very affordable find. Sandwiches are around $6-7, for a smaller but still filling meal.
From what I can tell, everything is made on the premises.
The restaurant serves fresh seafood and meats. One of the facets you need to deal with is that they only buy as much as they can serve so some items on the menu were already sold out -- a small price to pay for the freshest seafood and desserts. I ordered the coconut shrimp skewers, a cup of the Mediterranean chowder, and stuffed flounder. All three items were cooked to perfection and full of flavor. My friends ordered the 2 lbs Alaskan King Crab legs special and I feasted on some of them as well. The crab legs were so sweet; they didn't need butter at all.
One note: Ocean City is a "dry town" so there is no beer or alcohol served in the city.
Favorite Dish: If I had to choose again (and I probably will), I would go for the Crab legs...they were outstanding.
And if you're game, try the ostrich...they were already sold out when we got there, but our waiter Jack informed us that they taste like steak...
This ice cream palor is located on the corner of 8th & Atlantic, one block from the boardwalk. It has been in business for over 30 years and sells the best and most inexpensive ice in Ocean City. They also offer soft serve, Belgian Waffels, Italian Water Ice, old fashion milkshakes, and even has the New Jersey Lottery.
Favorite Dish: Their Belgian Waffles are made to order with your flavor of ice cream and toppings.
June's Cafe is a fantastic new restaurant. Chef June prepares all meals to order, so you can really taste the freshness in the ingredients. Great Blackboard specials for Breakfast and Lunch in addition to traditional favorites on the menu. The Chef used to work for high end restaurants in Atlantic City and Somers Point and finally opened her own Cafe.
Favorite Dish: Best New England Clam Chowder around - not as heavy as traditional chowder. Eggs Benedict. Super fresh and tasty wraps. Great for custom catering or party trays as well
Spent $140. on Ikes greasiest - no tasting crabcakes in the world - we got take out and they even burned a hole in the styrophone. I could not believe I wasted $18. on two flat no tasting crabcakes I thought we were at the shore theres lots of competition - and you lost big time by going to Ike's. And the fries they called famous were potatoe chips that were not appetizing at all. I feel robbed!
Favorite Dish: NONE!
Mack and Manco Pizza is a local favorite around the shore. They have several locations in Ocean City and in other shore resort towns. Their product is always reliable, and their are no surprises with their pizza. My daughter loves the Mack & Manco where you can sit at the counter and watch them make the pizza. In Ocean City there are three locations:
758 Boardwalk (609) 399-2783
920 Boardwalk (609) 399-2548
12th & Boardwalk (609) 398-0720
It's real casual- overlooking the ocean. You can go in in your bathing suit and flipflops.
Favorite Dish: After being closed for 2 years after a fire, Litterers is BACK!
Their pizza is the best pizza in south Jersey- I swear! The slices are humoungous and greasy and real flappy-- the traditional South Philly kind that is hard to find now-adays. Some people don't like this kind of pizza- but to me it is perfection!!! In Ocean City most people get hung-up on Mack & Manco pizza, but Litter's pizza is way better. Since the renovations, Litterer's has a nice seating area and an expanded menu. Give it a shot!
Island Grill is an upscale, family-friendly restaurant. I recommend this place especially because of some of the unconventional menu offerings... Don't worry, most of the food on the menu is traditional steaks and pasta, and an extensive seafood menu. But for the adventurous there's ostrich on the the menu everyday. And the Safari Menu includes seasonally available items on Thursdays through Sundays. Offerings include Blackbuck Antelope, South Texas Antelope, Buffalo, Elk, Lake Victoria Perch, Pheasant, Wild Boar, Kangaroo, Zebra Bear, Moose, Venison, Snake, and Alligator. You have to agree it is one of the most daring menus you've seen in a long time. So don't be afraid, check it out! And just in case you chicken out, there's always Veal Parmigiana...
The promenade is an awesome food court that has tons of choices ranging from pizza, to seafood, to periogis, funnel cake, donuts, canolis, fries and more. It's a really great spot to get a bite to eat. It's very convient if you are with a group of people who can't agree on what to eat!
Favorite Dish: The Pizza, french fries and canolis!!!!
