Ocean City Restaurants

  • An Ocean City "institution"

The Chatterbox has been in Ocean City for over 65 years- it's a family restaurant that is an "instution". It's typical American fare-- nothing exciting, but reliably good, inexpensive and family friendly. The restaurant has that retro-50's guache pink and neon vibe. What makes it really interesting are all the retro pictures from the 20's 30's and...

  • Dry Town?

Ocean City has been a dry town since its founding, but anyone who has been to a "Night in Venice" party knows that while you might not be able to buy adult beverages on the island, that doesn't stop anyone from partaking in them. Most nightlife from the prohibition perod on has been private house parties. Ocean City used to be a city of huge "shore...

  • Avoid those parking fees

Finding a place to park isn't hard, plenty of that, even on crowded weekends there is some lot space left. Finding FREE parking is another matter. Parking in the rental-residential areas can be found, but not so much so near the center of town and the boardwalk. So most people bring their bikes. OC is a LONG city and walking to a destination can...

There are lots of places to buy fudge on the Boardwalk, but trust someone who goes to OC all the time... accept no imitations and buy your fudge from "The Fudge Kitchen." • Don't be too cheap

I don't think I have sensed a Jersey shore town with more local pride than Ocean City. To be a courteous visitor, I suggest doing two things: 1. Just buy your beach tags (don't try evading the beach patrol by running in the water) and 2. Please pick up after yourself on the beachYep. It's that easy.

Ocean City Warnings and Dangers

  • Watch out for the seabirds.

If you eat a slice of pizza on the board walk. Watch out for the birds, because they arent afraid of you and they will attack you and steal your slice if they are hungry. Watch out. I prefered to stay inside when I ate pzza on the boardwalk, and the pizza is really good and delicious here.

  • You may need a gastric bypass afterward

It's very easy to pack on the pounds while you are at the Boardwalk. The staggaring array of ice-cream novelties, french fries, candies, fried foods and sweets will tempt you to eat all day long, every day. If you aren't careful, you children will be so jacked up on sugar, they won't sleep for the entire vacation!

  • Riptides

We may have small waves in New Jersey, but please don't underestimate the riptides. Keep close eye on your children and small children should absolutely be accompanied, even if they are only going in up their ankles. It only takes a second for a small child to be swept away in the unpredictable tide. Make sure you swim where there are lifeguards as...

Ocean City Tourist Traps

  • Shops on the Boardwalk

If you are a tourist, your going to want to buy souvenirs for your family and friends. However here in OC, there are some really silly stores that sell suntan lotion, beach balls, rafts, swim suits, etc. If you really need suntan lotion or tanning oil, just head into somers point to an eckard or something. On the boardwalk these things are very...

  • Dry Town

OC is a dry town, which means if you want to drink, you need to leave. If you are staying there, your obviously going to come back sometime with alcohol in your system. Don't drive drunk and if you are going to drink, have a designated driver. Cops pull people over randomly late at night to see if your drunk. Be cautious and be safe.

  • Ocean City Bridge

Once you get over Ocean City bridge (right after the Somers Point Circle) the speed limit is 40 MPH. There are always cops there, and they love giving tickets. Especially in the summer months when they know the tourists are down. Be cautious and dont speed. You will be able to go home with out any violations. Do the speed limit!

I can't think of a more relaxing, theraputic activity than flounder fishing in the back bays. Unlike offshore fishing, the back bays are smooth and protected. Mini golf isn't technically a sport... but it is one of my favorite pastimes. There are about 10 mini golf courses right on the boardwalk and several in town. • Bike or Surrey on the Boards

Ocean City allows you to ride surreys and bicycles on the boardwalk. The surreys are wonderful because the large ones accomodate 4 adults and 2 small children.
