If you want to get to Pompton Plains from New York City, your best bet is to take the New Jersey Transit 194 bus from the Port Authority Bus Terminal at 8th and 42nd Street in Manhattan. The buses leave approximately once an hour, except at the evening rush hour (5 PM), when they leave every five minutes for about an hour and a half. As of this posting, a zone 6 fare, which is what you need to ride this bus, is $6 each way, or $12 round trip. This bus has a final destination of Newfoundland, NJ, which is considerably north of Pompton Plains, but there are several intermediate stops in Pompton Plains.
